Does anyone know the amount of sugar alcohol we are allowed to have?

Thanks for the information Kathy! I am so excited because I am feeling so good today. I even went to Walmart with my mom this evening! A few days ago I never thought I'd be able to do that!

I was never told NOT to chew gum. I'm not a gum swallower either, so I wasn't worried. I've been told the reason for no gum in some cases is that it causes you to swallow excess air, and/or excess saliva, filling your pouch. Anyhow, I was also told to stay with 5gr. of sugar alcohol or less, just in case. I've pushed that some, and haven't dumped. However, most people react in some way to sugar alcohols. Many people get the runs, I personally get constipated. Gum doesn't bother me though. I chew trident white all the time.
Hugs!

really kathy?  Dr. K told us that he NEVER wants us to have gum or any kind of sugar free candy as it could promote snacking.  I listened but I couldn't stand it any more LOL  I had to have gum!  or at least some breath savers.

each person's sensitivity to sugar alcs can vary.  I can't handle more than 3-4 gm at a time.  Chewing gum can create lots of gas(lower GI mainly)  plus sugar alcs can do same.  Sometimes I go for a regular sugar gum that has only has 3-4 grams of sugar as I can tolerate it better than sugar alcohols.

I've chewed gum and had SF candy.  I haven't had problems with either and I don't appear to have any issues with sugar alcohols (or sugar really).  Juicy fruit has like 2 grams of sugar per stick.  My yogurt has 11.  So I figured juicy fruit was fine.  I've also had the SF gums, but some of them leave weird after tastes.  My fav is Ice Breakers Ice Cubes.

As for the SF candy, I always let it melt and just suck on it.  But I did that pre-surgery too.  My favorites are Lifesavers and Livesavers Butter Rum and Crystal Light Lemonade.  I buy them by the bag and get them at Walmart the cheapest, but Target also has them cheap.  They are a LOT more expensive at the grocery store.  After I eat and I feel like I want "dessert" I just pop one in my mouth and I feel fine. I just like a little sweetness after I eat.
