I'm discouraged

I've only lost 40 lbs in the 7 weeks since surgery and I expected to do more.  I work from early in the morning til late in the evening, so I don't get to go to the gym much or go to support groups.  I went to work the week after surgery and now I'm tired.

I can't stand the proteins that I have and I feel like I'm now going it alone.

Cynthia,

You are never alone at OH.  40 pounds is great!  Could you have lost that weight on your own and not gain it back?  That weight is gone forever!

Let us be your support group.  If there's no one around here (which doesn't happen too often), try the Main Forum.  There are alot of great people there also.

Tell us what your eating/using for protein.  You will get a lot of suggestions.  Go to the Recipe Forum.

I can recommend quite a few blogs that offer great recipes.

Cynthia,
FIRST of all 40 lbs in 7 weeks is AWESOME!!!!! You should feel very proud of yourself.

Second, protein is essential, you can not - not do it. Seriously, your body will eat itself if you neglect the protein too long. There are literally hundrends of kinds out there. There has got to be 1 that you can tolerate.

Think of it as medicine if you have to, you need it.

As far as the gym or support groups, while I personally feel that both are a nessecity. You can walk at home, make many small changes like taking the steps instead of the elevator etc. to get exercise.  Also many gyms have extended hours. Bally's opens at 5:30am, and I think they are open till like 11 pm.
Support is so important, only people that have gone through this will really understand what you are going through. For this first year, it is SO important to MAKE time for yourself. You deserve this, and these little things make a BIG difference in long term outcomes.

I wish you all the best

Dianne

I agree... 40 pounds is 7 weeks is great! I know you wi**** could be more, but in time it will be.
Trust me, I know how you're feeling... I'm 3 months out and down just over 50 pounds... I so wi**** was more, but I keep telling myself that 50 lbs. is the most I've ever lost and if it weren't for the high expectations that come from this surgery I'd e extatic.

As  for the protein stuff... I'm with you I hate it! I need to find something that doesn't make me gag. I wi**** came in pill form, but for now... you just have to do it. I also try to pack alot of protein from normal resources into my diet like chicken and fat free hot dogs!

Good luck and try to stay posative. It's half the battle.

I thank all of you for your responses; I'm sure I'll feel better in a few days, but tonight I'm having a 'moment'.

i agree with you about expectations from surgeons. i think that is too much pressure in my opinion. i'll be 8 months out on sunday and i've lost 83 lbs. by surgeon standards i am a failure. but for me, i would never had been able to do this witout surgery. and i feel so much better. i wish people would stop pressuring themselves so much.

HIJACK!!!!

HI VICTORIA!!!

50 pounds is awesome!!!!!  I'm so happy for you - just continue to work your tool and the rest will come off.

I'm with you on the protein "pill."  My gosh, there're pills for everything else - WHY can't someone develop that???

You hang in there and don't be a stranger!!

Hugs,

Tia

HI TIA!

Yeah I've pretty much been blah for a while. I would say that falling off the wagon would accurately explain some of it.

........... I don't know.

Hi Cynthia, Please know that you are NOT alone. There are plenty of people making this journey with you... 40 pounds lost is great! It is a reason to celebrate. Congratulations!!!! It may be "slow" going but remember, we didn't gain the weight over night, and we can't expect to lose it all overnight. The weight loss WILL continue. Stay encouraged. Peace and Blessings, -Antoinette

Cynthia -

I'll echo what everyone else said.  I will also add that it does get better - that I can promise.  But, as you know from the research you did prior to having wls, WE have to work it.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!  I understand time constraints, but if you've got time, come here - we'll help, support, encourage and provide recipes.  It's what we do best!!!

Hang in there!!

Hugs,

Tia
