Surgery went well, came home on wednesday. In a little pain, don't like the reglen Dr. Singh put me on. Can't sleep at all.   I have a question about bruiseing after surgery. Did experience any brusing on there stomach. After i go back to work I will start attending meetings at st.agnes so i can meet everyone.

Thanks, Bridgette

Congratulations! Glad to hear you are doing well for the most part. I hope you get some sleep though.  Since they frequently use blood thinners to minimze the chance for blood clots, you could be prone to bruising for a while. I did not have any where they did the laproscopic surgery. But I did have bruising where I got the heperin shots (I was a little unusual in that I had to continue these at home for 3 days after I was discharged.

Hey! No fair. I had to take the Lovenox shots at home for SIX WEEKS!  They hurt.  And gave me lots of bruises.  So did my insulin shots.

I now take B-12 shots and Enbrel shots (for Psoriasis) but they don't bruise me.  I do those in my arms and thighs, though.  The Lovenox and insulin were in my stomach.  I wonder if that makes a difference.

I have not had the surgery but wanted to add that I had laprascopic surgery years ago and ended up with several 'golf ball' size bruises on my belly.  My doc said that was from them holding my skin out while they were working inside.  Fun huh? LOL.  Not sure if that's the case in your situation or not though but it's probably pretty common in laprascopic surgery.

BTW, congrats on your surgery - glad everything went well!!!

Bridgette:

Congrats on the successful surgery.  I think that everyone is different when it comes to bruising.  I also think that it depends on how much tugging had to be done during the surgery itself.

I had a little bruising but not too much.  Most of my bruising was from the injections of Heparin and Lovelox that I had to take.  The bruising will go away... jsut like the scars from the surgery itself.  I proudly call my scars my badges of courage!

Best of luck to you,  do what Dr. S has told you to do and you will be feeling better every day.  Remember to get your walking in... even if it's just in the house.  You need to get the drugs out of your system and walking will help you with the blood flow.

Make sure you introduce yourself  to me at the support meeting when you are able to attend.

Hugs,

deb

Hey Bridgette - I had surgery on Monday too there at St. Agnes with Averbach.  I have a good bit of bruising too, so don't worry it's normal.  Same thing happened after other laproscopic surgies I've had, it's from them being inside knocking around and all.  I'm still in pain too, too much to lay flat yet, I'm sleeping in a recliner for a couple more nights.  May place I have most of my pain in on my left side, lower incision.  I'm told because that is where they did most of the work.

Feel free to contact me anytime to compare issues or whatever.  I'm having a difficult time finding things to eat or eating the right stuff, but I'm working on it.

Congrats on your surgery.
