Date and question/dilemma- advice please
I finally am approved and thrilled! The surgeon's office called and orig gave me a date in Dec. I didn't want Dec - husband's, mother-in-laws and son's birthdays are all in Dec, not to mention Christmas. I'm not anticipating any complications but in case something bad happened I didn't want them to have alll their major celebration days ruined. So I mentally prepared for Jan. I just got a call, my new date is Oct 28th. Holy Smokes!! 26 days from now- I'm scared, shocked, EXCITED!!!! Yes- I'll be home and well on my way by the holidays..... Only one tiny thing - I have a new nephew. His Christening is on Nov 2nd- and I'll be his Godmother. I'm not worried about having to hold him- I know I can't that early and don't think that that will be a problem but I'm wondering if you think it'll be ok for me to sit in a pew for ~1-1/2 hours 6 days post op? I really don't want to postpone my surgery and can't ask that they postpone his Christening. Yet I don't want to be selfish either...What would you do?
Thanks-
Donna

I think sitting for 1.5 hours should be fine. You might get a little stiff but it will work itself out once you get moving again. I think the limit on how much you can lift right after surgery is about 25 pounds.......however I was lifting more than that (I had to use my arms and stuff to getmyself out of bed and at that time I was over 400 pounds) so just guage how you feel afterwards :) Congrats on getting your dat emove up....that's so awesome!!!
Well,
If you are a band patient I imagine you'll be ok....
Heck, I had my Ds surgery and then went to a George Carlin concert the next week.... (DH had won free tickets so I wasn't going to pass that up.)
At my church the only thing the godparents hold is the baby's white robe (bib,etc...) and candle.
If you want pics with the baby just do them sitting down or have a stool handy. (or maybe the Godfather could even do the holding (hehehe)
Good Luck...i'm sure you'll do just fine...

Well that is a little more invasive but I still imagine you might be able to do it....
My surgeon made me promise not to pick up anything heavier than 10 lbs for a few "weeks" (and that was only because the PA knew that I was weight training prior to surgery anyway)
Have fun anyway...be the God-mommy... Just take it easy...
(and my best piece of advice would be to get a binder for after surgery. It really helped me get around faster, tolerate sitting, and travelling in the car.)

Based on how I felt post-op, you'll be fine. At that point, you shouldn't be spending a lot of time in bed. My doc told me no more bed, except to sleep at night, once I went home 48 hours post-op. If it's like my church, you won't be sitting for the 1.5 hours, you'll be up and down, so it will work well for you. If the baby is less than 10 pounds, you'll be fine to hold him. Just make sure he's not a kicker. My Goddaughter was born in winter, so we waited until she was 5 months to baptize her. She wore a size 18 month gown, that's how big she was, and she was kicking me in the gut the entire time I held her, lol. I wasn't recently post-op, this was almost 4 years ago. But, where she kicked me was right were my lap RNY ports are.
Hugs!
