I'm new--my surgery date is 10/28
Hi Everyone! I am having the RNY done on 10/28 with Dr. Moeinelmoki. I am nervous/excited/etc.--any advice is welcome! I am 31 y/o and live in College Park, MD. If anyone knows of any local support groups, I would appreciate that info as well!
Has anyone else had their surgery done by Dr. Moein? I like him and his staff--curious to hear about other opinions and if you think that all of the post-op advice is right-on.
Thank you all for being here!

Welcome Nicki! It is good to have you join us! You will find lots of friendly and supportive folks here.
I did not have Dr. M. However, my surgeon used to work with him and I did have my surgery at GBMC. I had a complication (not directly related to my surgery) post op. Dr. M. was the MD on call that weekend and checked in on me a couple of times. I was impressed with the way he listened to everything I had to say and answered all of my questions in a clear manner. I am glad to hear that the office staff has been good to you. They went through some transition of staff there earlier this year and things were a little chaotic there for a while.
I sometimes attend the GBMC support groups, but more recently I have attended the ones at St. Agnes because that is where my surgeon relocated to. I have also seen posts from others about several other groups. I am sure they will offer details to you on those as well. It is really good to attend support groups. both pre and post surgery. I am found that it helps me stay focused and connected / committed to the process. This forum does that too.
Regarding post-op, the best I can tell you is to follow the guidelines that your surgeon sets for you. I have discovered that different MDs have diffierent guidelines that they prefer their patients follow even though the basics are the same. All patients are different. Some have no issues at all and some have a more challenging transition. Regardless, I don't think I have encountered anyone who would decide differently if they had the chance to do it all again. The change in your life will be so worth it.
Best Wishes,
Debbie

Welcome to the board! Nice to meet you. I used another hospital so I can't give you my opinion of your doctor but I've heard good things. I think someone said there is a meeting in crofton. Not sure how far that is from you. Also, all the baltimore hospitals welcome any bariatric patient to their open groups. Many of us meet socially and that helps when it comes to support. Plus this board is great. Good luck with your surgery.
Hi and welcome to the board.
I like Dr Mo as well - have done my followup visits with in since Dr Von Reuden
moved to St Agnes. There are many of Dr Mos patients here on the board.
I have a good friend who had him as her surgeon. Anyway any quiestions
feel free to ask away. We are a great group of support here

Thank you, everyone! I was told that I would have a private room at GBMC--did anyone else have that experience? My parnter might try and stay in the room for a night (instead of driving back to college park), but it depends on how comfortable the "recliner" they told me would be there is.
I am getting very excited--there is a small chance that they'll move the surgery date up a bit, since my insurance approval went through so quickly. At this point, I would love for them to move it up so that I can move forward! I have been obsessing over vitamins and broth and pro-op and post-op information...which is really starting to affect my productivity at work! LOL.
Thank you all, again. I see that a group met at Nacho Mama's recently--one of my favorite places! I'll have to make it a point to get to a Baltimore-based group.
Thank you again for all of your encouragement! I hope it goes well...

As far as sleeping arrangments for a guest: I had a seperate hospital bed
in my room - but that may not be the norm.
I remember well the waiting for the surgury date to get there - and trust me it will.
Just listen to the Dr and remember to walk and sip. I am happy too say I had no complications
at all.
We do meet socially - everything from movies too shopping too bingo.
So again welcome and Good luck.
