Post-opers what's your drink of choice?
Just curious as to those of you who have already had your surgery what your drink of choice (alcoholic) is now.
Given the fact that carbonation is out, there goes beer and champaign. And given the fact that surgar is a no no I guess that means those fruity tutti drinks are out too. So tell me what your drinking now? And how certain alcohols have affected you.
And no I'm not a big drinker just a social drinker periodically.

Hey Christy!!!
I, too, am merely a social drinker - regardless of all my talk about Princess Wine and margaritas!! LOL!!!
My surgeon didn't say that carbonation was out forever, but I know a lot of them do. What guidelines has he given you for alcohol consumption? It seems as though their alcohol guidelines are as different as the nutritional guidelines.
I had my first drink, a margarita made with s/f mix, when I was 10 months post-op. I don't remember the next two hours. I didn't pass out, I just don't remember anything!!!
I get drunk MUCH faster on a much smaller amount. But the buzz quickly goes away. The one thing I really don't like is that I find I tend to eat more munchy type foods when I drink alcohol and drink while I'm eating - a forever no-no!!!
I've tried the s/f ritas, full blown ritas, wine, beer, wine coolers, etc. I've never had any problems as far as dumping, but I also don't push the envelope and drink to excess.
Hope this helps!! Wait a while to celebrate post-op, because the alcohol MAY upset your tummy.
Good luck,
Tia

Have not fear I don't plan on celebrating to quickly. Just comes to mind everytime we go out to dinner and have a drink, I think oh my what am I going to do post op. Especially since generally I have a bear or fruity drink.
Yes we were told no carbonation for life pretty much. Guess I have to find a transfer drink, I've been seaching but just haven't found one.

Okay, Christy - first of all, WHAT kind of glass would you drink a BEAR from??? Sorry, honey, just teasing!!!!
So...here's what you'll do in the first couple of months - either take your own Crystal Light packet and get some ice water, or.....order a glass of water with extra lemon and lime, squeeze some in, add some Splenda to taste, and use the other lemon and lime as a garnish.
It'll all come together, don't worry!!! And like I said, eventually, you'll be able to have some - just be a little pickier!
