Hello fellow banders
Hello, I would like for everybody to know a little about me. I am new to the forum.
My name is Beverly and I had the Lap Band surgery in April 2008. My pre-surgery weight was 252 pounds. I am currently at 191 pounds. I had my surgery at John Hopkins Bayview. The surgeon was awesome and the treatment after the surgery has been great.
At the present time I am at a plateau. I am hoping to get by it but could use some encouragement.
I do at least 30 minutes of exercise a day and some days do 2 hours. I walk five miles at least 3 days a week and I do spinning classes at the YMCA. I need to do some toning exercises but I am still having discomfort at the site of the port so it is difficult to do situps and squats. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you and happy messaging.

Hi Bev!!!
Welcome to the Maryland Board!! I'm not a bandster, as you can see, but there are several on here. I'm sure someone will be able to provide you with some help as far as the lapband goes, but I assure you that EVERYONE will be happy to support and encourage you.
You've done an amazing job!!! Keep up the good work!!
Hugs,
Tia

Hey Bev! I'm recently banded....as of last week so I don't have much advice. I'm hoping to learn from you later on! You've done great with your weight loss! I too was banded at Bayview. Dr. Steele is my surgeon.
Is that normal to still have port pain??? That pain is the worst!
Maybe you should completely change your exercise routine? I hear that helps out alot....
Good luck!

They tell me the pain is normal. At times it is intense and I can't even pick up my grandchildren or anything. I have learned to adjust but it is difficult sometimes. I don't let it stop me.
Yes, I have changed my routine a few times. I found that exercise is important. I try to do as much as I can daily.
I will be please to help in any way I can.

Hi Bev, I just introduced myself yesterday to the Maryland board. They are a great bunch of people. I had lap band at JH Bayview too in 11/06. To this day, I still have port pain. It's just awfully sensitive. My port sticks out too much. I am older (62) and I only walk to exercise, so I can advise you there. I did talk to my new doctor about it and he said I could swap the port for a lower profile port. Happy Messaging to you to. Diane
Bev, welcome to the group!
You've lost 61 pounds in 5+ months and that is great! Is this your first plateau? It's pretty normal to hit one sooner or later. Can you tell me what you eat on an average day? How much at each meal, etc? Do you track calories? Are you due for a fill (eating more than usual, getting hungry sooner)? The more we lose the less calories we need. Getting in enough water?
