Knee Update

Well I just got back from the orthopedist yet again.  This time I had MRI films in hand.  He said that the joint looks ok aside fromt he arthritis.  However, there is a TON of fluid in there. He said normal joints have about 5CCs of fluid in them.  He drew out 30CCs of fluid on my knee and he said that there was still more in there!!!  He then gave me a shot of cortizone.  So right now I'm in some pain but it now feels all loose in there.  Oh and get this, I figured the fluid would be all bloody or whatever.  It was yellow!!  like urine!  So I have to go home now and ice it up for the rest of the day.  He said that the cortizone probably won't kick in for a day or two.  I am determined to get into that gym!!!!

Hope you soon are in that gym Aaron.  I have only had one cortisone shot in my entire life in my hand for a trigger finger and I had no clue it was going to be so painful.  Don't want to go through that again.  Hope you are feeling no pain in the days ahead.

Thank you Donna :) I already feel better this morning.  I was actually able to go downstairs like a normal person today and I'm not limping.  I just have a very dull ache right now which is hardly noticeable.

30cc?  ICK!  I hope that the cortizone kicks in for you.  Does he feel that you'll need surgery or not?  Just manage the arthritis?

yeah I couldn't believe it.  I had to ask him "did that come out of ME?????"  LOL   They are going to analyze it to see what's causing the fluid.  He thought at first it might be gout or an infection but the fluid was too clear but there was a couple of floaty things in it like ripped cartilage or something in there.  He's trying like mad to keep me from having surgery on it.  the cortizone is actually doing it's thing because I can walk pretty good today.  However, he doesn't like the fact that multiple exposure to cortizone will actually soften the bones and worsening the arthritis so he was reluctant to do the cortizone but when you can't take anti-inflamatories, our options are limited.  So he said one shot isn't going to hurt (like hell LOL  it hurt like a MF!)  I thought he was going to pry my kneecap off with the needle LOL
