Does hair loss come from lack of protein?

I understand that it is a combination of the protein and the trauma from surgery.

Lisa, there is no way that this is it for you!  Too soon!  Could this be your first plateau?  Don't worry about the hair too much, it happened to all of us.  In fact, mine will do it YET again after I have the baby.  It's stress from surgery, anesthesia, and for wls patients it also comes from lack of nutrients (protein and vites).  SO, dont' worry about what you ate last week or last weekend.  Get back to basics and follow the rules, get in your water and avoid the bad carbs.  You'll get over this hump and be right back on that losing horse!

Heather:
Thanks for the advice.  I really need to hear those things.  I really think it is mostly stress at this point.  But that too shall pass in time.  Hope everything is good with you and your little princess.

Yep, stress is a mo-fo and I agree with Deb.  Stress will make your body hold onto weight too (good call Deb!).  Just get your head straight, work on the right food choices (God knows I love my share of the bad stuff and I'm enjoying it while I can being pregnant), and keep coming back to the board for support; you'll be just fine!  Before you know it you'll have a big WOOSH on the scale!  btw, the Princess and I are doing fine.  Getting ready to head out for a perinatal appointment in a few minutes and to enjoy the BEAUTIFUL weather!

Lisa, I see everyone else has given you great advice. Stress is making it worse. Your body's reaction to stress is not only the hair loss, which you would have already had, but to hold on to weight as well. I'm hoping a change in my work situation will allow me to start losing again. My hair started to fall out about 5 months post-op. It came out FAST, and in clumps. It continued for about 3 months, and in the last few weeks the loss has slowed down, and I'm starting to see new growth. I cut it short while I was losing it, to give my tub drain a break, lol. I regret that now, but it worked for the time being, and the length will come back.
Hugs!

I know what you mean about the tub drain.  I really didn't think I had that much hair.  It seems like I've lost so much, but thankfully I still have a few stands left on my head.

Lisa,

Sorry you are going through so much right now. I totally understand how stress can affect you. I have been low in vitamin D since before surgery and had to be on a weekly supplement.  That alone will make you feel tired and your muscles ache, so get that filled as soon as possible. I too, have been losing hair but it has been better since I added the protein drinks in the morning. You know I have had a hard time with protein drinks but recently found the muscle milk light mix at Rite Aid - what I have been doing is taking a 16oz bottle of cold water dump it into the blender before work in the morning and mix it then pour it back into the bottle and drink it on the way to work, I can actually get it down!!  This gives me automatically 50 grams of protein a day to jump start.  As far as food, I struggle still. Weight loss has been slow because I have not been excercising.  This low blood pressure thing has me in a depressive horrible slump, I wi**** would just go away. I am really worried as it is still the same and impacts my daily routine.  As far as the Pantene line I(thanks Tia!) I think I will try it.  Congrats on the 75 pounds you are doing great. The weight will come off, I don't worry about it, because I know we will eventually lose we have with the size of our new stomachs!!

Hang in there

Terri

PS Call me if you want to together after work one day or on the weekend. We are close enough to each other.

Thanks Terri:

I started today pretty good.  I think I might not be eating enough good, protein rich food.  As soon as I get through the move next week, I hope to be less stressed!!!  I'm going to JC Penny at lunch, I think they have a shampoo for thinning hair.  I've always had great luck with Paul Mitchell.  Can't wait to see you again!  You are coming to the next support group meeting, aren't you?  We're going to Zumba.
