X-POST - 9/15 Hernia Repair, Abdominal Wall Reconstruction & Tummy Tuck

Yesterday I wrote about my one-year surgi-versary and a 200 pound weight loss.   Now for the next leg of my journey:  Hernia Repair, Abdominal Wall Reconstruction & Tummy Tuck.  Repetitive abdominal surgeries have left me with no abdominal wall. I’m walking around, granted 200 pounds lighter, but looking like I have a huge beach ball in my belly.beachball.jpg Beach Ball image by April51   So, my weight loss surgeon says I need something done and sent me to a plastic surgeon to investigate reconstruction of my abdominal wall.   To this end, I am having surgery this Monday, September 15th. I had my last pre-op visit with Dr. Aloor (the PS) last Wednesday. As he told his intern, while trying to hold my abdomen up, “See this? It’s all bowels hanging out.” A sobering thought. One area of the hernia is so bad that it sits at the top of my left thigh and even prevented an x-ray of the hip to show anything.   Monday afternoon, both Dr. Aloor and my RNY surgeon will be working on me for 4-6 hours +. This is a little daunting.   I'm not so worried about myself.  After all, I'll be asleep.  But, I really feel sorry for my husband having to wait and worry for such a length of time. Chances are he will be alone. Hopefully, a friend I work with can come by for a few hours in the afternoon. I know the waiting is no fun. I have sat and waited through many of his surgeries. So, I know of what I speak. I’m sure all of you can commiserate.   I’m excited and nervous. Dr. Aloor said he will make my tummy as flat as possible. That will be too cool.   I’ve heard a tummy tuck alone can be quite painful. I just hope the medical staff  keeps the good stuff coming. Thanks Cira.

I will definitely keep in touch.  I have your phone numbers to take to the hospital with me; and, I told Joe to call you.  Since my surgery isn't until the afternoon and could be 6 hrs +, you may not hear until Tuesday.

You are a great cheering section.

Hugs and more hugs...
