I'm so sad. Over a stupid dinner.
Tomorrow is my 6th wedding anniversary. Every year, Ron and I have gone to the Melting Pot, which we love. This will be the first time we won't be going out to dinner at all. It makes me incredibly sad and depressed that 1. our tradition is over, and 2. that I can't eat yummy fondue, and 3. that I am now limiting what my husband can do.
Realistically, all I could probably eat would be the apples dipped in the cheese. And what? 2 of them? Still can't have salad (I asked at the doc's earlier in the week), no way could I eat the meats, and I'm willing to bet that the chocolate fondue would probably kill me.
Our entertainment used to be going out to dinner. I can finally fit in a restaurant booth (which I found out last week while visiting my parents in SC!) but I can't really eat in restaurants anymore (I had about 1/4 of the cup of soup I ordered). Talk about a Catch-22! When we went to visit my parents I was so annoyed that I was finally near a Sonic, but couldn't have it. Those damn commercials with their delicious looking food have tortured me for years, I finally have a chance, but I can't take advantage. Ugh!
And it isn't even like I am "being good" by not eating what I am not supposed to. I literally could NOT eat the food even if I decided to. I can't eat any meat without getting sick. I can mostly only eat soups, yogurt, cheese, etc. It gets boring. But my Upper GI and Endoscopy came back clean, so I have no physical problems, no more ulcers. So I guess my body is just effed up.
Before surgery I thought "I can do this. I love grilled chicken. I can live on that." HA! A piece of chicken would cause hours of misery.
Ok, I'm just ranting now. I just get sad and miserable sometimes. I don't know why food is so important to me or how to get over it.

Leigh,
((HUG)) I'm sorry you are feeling this way. I hope you and your husband celebrate your anniversary together in awhichever way you choose to, and if you want to go out to a nice restaurant where you can enjoy each other, the atmosphere, the music, and something you are able to eat, even if it's a simple soup item and some milk or water or tea, then you should go right ahead. The most important thing is that you have been with one another for 6 years and to celebrate your marriage. That being said, I know it's very hard to not be able to chomp down and enjoy the oversized restaurant servings of our favorite foods. I know it will be hard for me too, very soon, so feel free to remind me of that when I complain about it.
HAPPY WEDDING ANNIVERSARY TO YOU BOTH!!!

EDITED TO ADD: OMG I just saw your ticker!! You have lost 137 lbs since April, only 5 months! Amazing!!

Keep in mind that next year will be different, I know that does not help with this year but it will give you some hope. Why don't you both go to the kitchen and cook something friendly together that you can eat. Crab meat was great for me cause it would go down nicely. Two weeks after my RNY my esophagus stopped working. Let me know if you need some ideas of easy to swallow foods. Pm me your e-mail address.
The best gift you are giving yourself and husband at this anniversary is your new found health. You will live longer to see many more anniversary's.
Hugs Kristen

Happy Anniversary!!
I go through moments like this.. so I know how you feel. However.. what are you ordering when you go out? I'm only a month and a half post-op and we go out about once a week. Do you like grilled fish? Just ask them to not soak in butter. Crab? I can eat some of a crab cake or a cub of cream of crab soup. Also, what's the reason that you can't have salad? I eat raw veggies now, but i have to make sure I chew them up very, very well. I also order chili often. The beans and the ground beef are great sources of protein, as well as a little cheese on top. I can't fini**** but it's a yummy meal.
Just throwing out some suggestions.
