I know it's just gas, but holy cow my insides are noisy!  It's not uncomfortable most of the time. Occassionaly I'll have mild discomfort but it's really just the noise that is driving me mad.  Will Gas-x help?

Hey Tina!!!

If your doc says you can use Gas-X by all eans (I have no key next to the N right now . so this will be creative reading I sure) try it.  I can tell you I alnost 4 1/2 years out and insides runble on occasion!!!

Best wishes as the journey continues!

Hugs, o

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

Hi Tina,

I had the same problem and still do occasionally. I had Dr. Averbach who is Dr. Singh's partner and yes I could use gas x it was on the list that Cathy the nurse gave us in preop class.  Ii use the Gax X strips they are pretty good and help some.  Let me ask you this, are you possibly eating something that is too thick like cream soups, pudding etc.  If so, you might want to take a few days and go back to clear liquids, SF jello etc. that will help.  It is normal, it will pass some you are less than a week post op.

Hang in there

Hugs,
Terri

Thanks Teri,

Yes, I pulled out my green "bible' from Cathy and saw I could take Gas-X.  I'll have Dave get me out of the house in a little bit and pick some up.  It could be food related, but all the noise actually started at the hospital and I have tried not to duplicate what the hospital gave me.

Here is another question. i'm worried about trying something that will not sit well or be too hard on my pouch.  If I do egg salad, should I only use mayo or can I use the dijonaise stuff, which is mayo and dijon mustard mixed together? I'm not real sure how various condiments sit or how long I should wait to try.

It's funny, as prepared as i thought I as for all of this, now I feel like I know nothing as far as food choices go. lol I know what they say I can have, it's just that I love to cook so I'm wanting to try this or that to make it a bit more exciting but am not sure I can.

hey Tina!  i can assure you that dijonnaise should be ok......watch that fat content though.  Early out you may not tolerate too much of it.  My condiment of choice was spicy brown mustard for a long time until i could find low carb ketchup.  although i would probably wait on the egg salad right now unless you're going to puree it.  a lot of people can't tolerate eggs period.  I'm one of the lucky ones who can but it takes very little of it to get me full.  Be careful with that hon :)  *HUGE BEAR HUGS*

Tina,

I am glad you found the book.    On the food thing be careful and patient.  I still cannot eat eggs in any way they give me a stuck sick to to my stomach feeling.  There are alot of post op's that have problems with eggs and some do not.  Right now you are so early out I would stick to the strickly puree and soft stuff,  like yogurt, cottage cheese, soups, etc.   I still stick to those things mostly in my diet, as i have been experiencing with other foods as well.  If you want to try  something different when the time is right try a few crackers with peanut butter they always worked ok for me.   Going back to the eggs, I definitly would not do egg salad anytime soon, it might be too heavy.  If you try eggs try them soft boiled or poached I know that may sound but, I would wait another month or so to try.   One thing that I really liked and ate alot of us early out was tomatoe soup with a few crackers crumbled up in, it helped me with my italian food craving.  Sugar free fudge popsicles are also really good and they count toward your fluid intake and they are low in calories.  Anyway, I hope some of this helps, take care of yourself and I will PM you my phone numbers if you ever want to talk

Hang in there

Thanks again!  I was debating about the egg thing.  Arlene had mentioned egg salad and scrambled eggs during the pureed food stage but I had heard from many of you that the eggs took a wihle before they were tolerated.  I think I will wait a bit longer.

Hi Tina,

Oh trust me it is normal to have a grumbly dragon in your belly at first. lol
My dog Lucky (who is in doggy heaven now)  used to hear my tummy and bark at it. lol It was so funny.
I used Gas X to help a few months down the line my tummy settle down, but occassionally I get the rumbles and my kids ask me why is my tummy so loud. lol

Make sure to walk a lot to help move the gas.

Take care

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Hi Tina,

At 2+ years post op, my GI tract reamins very loud....and its not  hunger pangs or the lower bowels giving a warning.  Usually its just very loud digestive sounds that give me no discomfort- other than embarrassment .  But later in the day it may end up as lower GI gas/bloating  that has to come out or you will feel likely to explode.  Gas X didn't do much for me.  I even tried lactaid pills and so many other OTC remedies like activated charcoal and digestive enzyme tablets but nothing has taken it away for me.  I can't really identify a specific food causing it for me.  Like Cira mentioned, walking and moving about can help it pass thru.  I do take a rx medication for IBS-D which slows down my GI tract but it doesn't eliminate the loud rumblings I have everyday.  Best wishes for a remedy.  Please post your trials and successes here- I'm always willing to try something if it works for someone else.

Hey Tina. My girflriend is almost a year out of her RNY and she still has this issue. She said it gets VERY LOUD especially when she works in a bank where its usually quiet. LOL I would take what your Doc says is best. I am really glad its not uncomfortable for you though. ;o) ~Jilly~
