I just came back from a consult from Dr. Singh.  He advised me to get a sleep study done. Where do I get that done and what can I expect??

Gbmc has a sleep center as well:  Did he give you a referral  for one?

There are a couple of things to check to determine where. 1 - which locations does your insurance cover? 2- Try the hospital where you plan to have the surgery. I was working with GBMC for my surgery and GBMC has a sleep study program there, so I scheduled mine with them. I suspect Dr. S's office could recommend some places.

The actual study involed checking into the hospital in the evening (as arranged by appt). You are hooked up with all kinds of wires on your head, arms, chest, legs, etc. Then you are supposed to sleep - Hah! I love sleep and I had a hard time getting comfortable. it is not that anythng hurt. The equipment is sensitive and I could not seem to get into my favorite sleep position. Early the next monring, they will come in to tell you the study is over. You can either shower there or wait until you get home. Some people actually go straight to work after their study. I scheduled mine on a Friday night so I did not have to worry about work the next day. In advance the sleep study center you contact should be able to provide you with a packet of materials as to what to expect from their location. I suspect they are all similar.

Good luck!

Just want for my sleep study on friday. Wow, It was not as bad as i thought it was going to be. The worst thing was the gook that they hook the wires to my head.  It took about 15min to 30 mins. to get you set-up. Be care ful  the first time you roll over that the leg wires have room to let you move. Then they woke me up at 5am and told me that the test was done.
Good Night

Not sure if you are a veteran or not, but my husband had his done at the VA hospital.  No cost, and if you need a c-pap they also pay for that.  So if you ARE a vet, take that route as it is free.

Revised to VSG (6/11/09) weighing 253...
