Protein Bar Question

I've seen were we eat protein bars after surgery, and seen some people posting them as meals on the "Feed Bag".  I was wondering what types of protein bars some of you eat.  And wondering if the Snickers Marathon Proten bar is an acceptable choice, it has 28g protein in one bar.  And if it is are you supposed to eat the whole thing because it's quite large.  If this is acceptable that's great because they are really yummy.

Everyone's tastes are different when it comes to protein products whether it be the powers or the bars. You do need to look at the sugar content and the carbs.  Too much sugar can make you dump.  Remember, what you may love today, you may not be able to eat after the surgery.  Many tastes change.  I myself can not tolerate any protein bars.  Can't stand the taste but I have found a protein powder (vanilla body fortress from walmart, 2lb jug for $14) that I put in a blender with a little decaf coffee, sf coffee mate vanilla caramel powder, davinci sf vanilla syrup, (and some caramel too at times) and ice.  Blends up a great frozen drink.  Even easy to add the miralax in there and blend it in too for those days when the plumbing isn't working right...lol... Don't go out and go crazy stocking up on big jars of protein powder and bars.  They may wind up sitting in your cabinets collecting dust.  I think GNC sells samples of things and I know others on here know websites that have samples to try things.  Big pricy items aren't always the best tasting and "tasteless" ISN'T always tasteless...
Good luck.

What's considered to much sugar?  I looked at this bar and it has 11g.

I bought some of the same drinks powders and ready made from Bariatric Advantage when I ordered my vitamins and stuff the other day, they should be coming today.  I just got one of a buch of different things to try for the reasons you said, might not like it, and tastes change.  I also have to go to Walmart and get some of their stuff as everyone has said to get your stuff there including my doctor.

That drink you made sounds fabulous though, might have to try that one.

Hey Christy!

I eat the snickers low carb marathon bar and I like it pretty well enough....not a lot of sugar in them at all.  I stay away fromt he Pure Protein bars because I dumped on them.  However, when you are first out of surgery, you will need to have powder as the protein bars are WAY too hard on a newly post-op tummy.  So get some powder until you get to go on solid foods then you can switch to the bars if you can tolerate them at all.

BTW, where do you get those marathon bars that are THAT big?  I can only find the small ones (19 g of protein) so I eat them as snacks rather than meals.

Got it, powders not bars, post op!!  Makes sense when you talk liquids vs. solids.  see that's why we need all your help.

The Snickers I get doesn't say Low Carb it's called Marathon, and I get them at work at my employee store.

regarding sugar content, I limit myself to 10 g of sugar.  now I figure my sugar differently.  I take the regular grams of sugar and add the sugar alcohols and use that total as my limit.  That seems to work for me.  My protein bar is right around 10g of sugar/sugar alcohols and I can tolerate it.  The next time you're in the store look for the low carb ones...if they don't have it, see if they can stock it for you because by the time you are on solid food......maybe either you'll get used to the protein powder or like me, buy whole boxes of the protein bars LOL

Hey Aaron:

Did you know that Dr. K doesn't like us to eat protein bars?  I learned that yesterday.  I'm going to PM you with my experience from yesterday.
