sick time
Well...I just checked to see how much sick time I have to make sure I have enough when my surgery time comes around, as of today's date I have 14 days of sick time, so that is 2 weeks and 4 days of sick time and I have 5 days of vacation, I accumlate time monthly so I should have more then enough time even right now to cover my sick time, relieves my mind a bit!

does your company not have short-term-disability and FMLA? i was out for two weeks following RNY and was paid 100%. i commented to met life (they handle our STD claims) that i was fortunate that my company provided such great benefits and her answer was "they don't have any choice... that's the law." maybe someone on here with an HR background can clarify whether this is true, but i definitely took no sick time.
I was lucky enough to get short term disability which saved me a couple weeks of vacation that I can still take. You don't wanna start working yourself to death hon after you get back from surgery. Might wanna look into short term disability. With my company, I have to use 5 days of vacation leading up to the STD period to start for paper processing. Something to think about.
how do I apply for short term disability??? I have never heard of that....I work for the baltimore city government, not sure if they have it but I can check into it....I work at a desk job but I do a lot of walking associated with my job...even the bathroom is on the other side of the building...a huge building, one of the big buildings in downtown baltimore....thanks all for giving me something to check into!

do you have a company benefits website to check? if not, just call HR.
Do you know if you personally have short term disability? I am pretty sure with my DH he had to 'buy' it for a couple measly dollars each month but it's totally worth it. If it's something you have to pay for it should be on your pay stub. A lot of companies offer it as part of the basic package, and it's no cost to you at all and therefore not on your paystub. If it is something that you can buy, you should check with HR or benefits dept to find out when open enrollment is and how to obtain it. I think I get 60 days of 100% pay for short term disability right now since I've been here 9 years.
good luck.
