OT: I'm a biker girl!

My husband is a HUGE biker fan....he loves to ride his motorcycle all of the time, regardless of weather.  Rain, sun, wind, snow...he rides all year 'round.  He has a silver BMW R1150RS, and it is affectionately known as "Sylvia".

He's always hounding me to go on the bike with him, but I just never felt comfortable doing it.  Slinging my leg over top the bike to get on the seat was always an issue, and I just felt like a lard-azz on the back of his bike.

Buuuuuuuuttttttt, since I'm feeling better about myself, and getting a little smaller, I went out and ordered on-line a new motorcycle jacket for me.  It arrived, and I let my husband open it saying "it's a present for you, but it's really for me".  Imagine his surprise when he opened the box to find a new riding jacket for ME!  But he was tickled beyond belief that I bought myself a jacket just so that I would feel comfortable riding with him.

Our first ride:  a 600-mile in one day trip to all of the lighthouses in Maryland.  It starts in St. Mary's County, and follows the Chesapeake coast up to Annapolis then over to the Eastern Shore.  For the first time, I am really excited about going on the bike with him.

Anyone else a biker fan, or anyone who wants to come with?

That is awesome!

After my divorce (4 years ago) I decided to try new things and start new traditions.  So I have done some cool stuff with my kids, and I took the motorcycle safety course and got my license.  I went out and bought a Harley Sportster 883, it's a beautiful bike. Unfortunately I have not had time to get out on it and perfect my riding skills though. And have re-thought the safety implications with me not being an experienced rider.  I love riding with someone though!  I am selling my bike now, but to my new honey, and he is ordering a seat and sissybar for me to ride with him.
All that said - the biker-chick persona can be fun at times!

Have fun and ride safe!!!

If you are anything like me, once your on the back for a while, you'll be asking "when do I get mine".  I've been riding since 1999 when I got tired of being on the back of DH's bike and seeing all the ladies riding their own.  Took the Motorcycle Safety Course and had my Sportster on my birthday in August, 99.  Now I have a 2007 HD Softail.  Sorry to say, riding less lately because I hate my image of the big girl on the bike.  I can't wait to get on it after surgery in September and some of the weight is gone.

Are you sure your doing 600 miles in Md in one day?? Thats a lot for the first trip, your butt is going to be sore.    My father is from the UP in Michigan, I would love to ride through the UP and Mackinaw island on my bike.  That's my "one of these days" trips.  Have fun, when are you taking your ride??

Good for you for finding you courage and striking out on this new adventure!  I just know your DH is thrilled to have you with!!!  Congrats!!  I'll bet you look hot in the leather jacket.  Take pics!  I've lived her 25 years and never seen most of the lighthouses here in MD....and I've always wanted to do a trip like that.  Let us know where you went and what you did!

This is hubby.. I was thrilled to open up the box and find HER jacket.  We tried one ride last year and she lasted 1/4 mile before I got the "I want to go home" tap on the shoulder.

Check out the link above.  The Lighthouse Challenge is a weekend EVENT, and you can take your time and see all the lighthouses over two days.  A bike club out of DC I belong to, BMWBMW(BMW Bikers of Metro Washington DC) decided to raise the bar and do all of the lighthouses in one day two years ago, and we made it with about 5 minutes to spare at the last one.

Fun time on a bike or in a car.

Oh, and 600 miles in a day is a short comfy ride.. my then 13 year old daughter backseated the challenge the last time.

Thank you for the itinerary for visiting all the light houses!  I'll be printing that, and I love that acronym for your club.  600 miles though does seem to be a stretch!  No grass would be growing under your tires that's for sure!

I have a 2003 H-D Firefighter's Special Edition Ultra Classic and I go riding every chance I get. People just don't understand the freedom of it.

i never had any interest in bikes until my sister married my current brother in law, who races Harley Davidson VRod Destroyers.  the first race i went to scared the crap outta me.  those things go nearly 200 mph in seconds.  then there is the top fuel bikes that use a form of jet fuel that makes them go about 230 in seconds.  it's soooo exciting to race.  they have already held their race in maryland this year, but i will remember to post next year when they return since i know there are biker fans on here.
