Okay, it will either be the end of this year or the beginning of the next year before my surgery I am sure but I have seen quite a few people say they hope they are scheduled before the end of the year so that they don't have to start with the insurance process again? Why would you need to start again with the insurance if you are not scheduled before the end of the year? can any one advise me? thanks so much!

I know that some insurance companies make you go through the entire process in a 12 mos time frame for billing to approve. My insurance is not that way so I dont fully understand but I have heard people vent about it. If I see anything on it I will pass it along to ya.

For most Companiesm open enrollment is in the Fall and the new insurances take effect on Jan 1st.  Also, if you have yearly deductables and "out of pocket" amounts you have to start over again in January but if your insurance stays the same the approval process should not change.

yeah, i've never heard of anyone having to start the whole process of approval over.... i know most people don't want to go past jan 1 because their deductibles start over.  also for people that have healthcare spending accounts, they have planned to spend that money in one calendar year and if they don't, they lose it.

Yeah, I've never heard of anyone having to start the whole process over either.  I'd contact my surgeon's office as well as the insurance company to find the answer to your worries.  It couldn't hurt and they're the ones that would have the real answers.  We'd just be speculating.

I have to agree with everyone else here. I've never heard of having to start the process over. However I did run into the issue that I was supposed to have my surgery last september so I really padded my flexible spending account (FSA) but when the mishap happened with my dietician visits and I got pushed to May of this year, I lost about $400 of FSA money by the end of the year. It really sucked.

I think some people fear that, because they are changing their health insurance companies. Many companies change their benefit years on 1/1, and if a company changes health insurance carriers, a person would have to go for re-approval. However, even if you  have to submit for approval from another company, that doesn't mean starting over. Your surgeon still has records of what you have done. The only additional things you would have to do would be anything the new insurance required that the former one didn't.
