Is WLS the EASY way out???

No way its easy!  I know of post ops- 2 years out or more-  who have not lost the weight amount  they expected or are gaining weight and are still obese or MO!  Nothing easy about it. 

Only those unfamiliar with WLS and obesity issues say its an easy way out.  Thanks for the post.  I'll have to print that out and distribute as needed.

Right me too!!!! My husband works at the USCG and there was a woman he works with who had it done. She was so depressed that she was still MO a year out of WLS. But in all fairness she was not walking or taking any of her vitamins etc. She was drinking too...a lot. She passed away about two years ago. I think her liver is what shut down if I recall correctly so it wasnt correlated to the WLS directly. She was a wonderful woman and is missed everyday by so many. Its sad because I never knew her, just knew her first name because she would but atleast 8-10 boxes of Girl Scout cookies every year from all 3 of my daughters. She was a big supporter for kids and their fundraisers.

I just think people hear so often that its the easy way out that they may actually believe that. I would hope everyone does their research first hand.

That's been the myth about this surgery since the very beginning.  Most of the people that make that comment haven't been an ounce overweight their whole life.  The obese people that make that comment are the ones that will be obese their whole life because they'll yo-yo with diets their whole life.  I'm glad you attached that article, it is so true.

Thanks for reading the article. I wish others could educate themselves more before passing judgement on people whom have WLS. To me that is just ignorance because they dont know about the surgery. I have not even had it yet and my surgeon has told me twice ITS NOT THE EASY WAY OUT, IT WILL BE TOUGH. I wish they could tell that to EVERYONE!
I was watching Entertainment Tonight a few weeks ago and they were talking to a group of women who all got together and lost 100 pounds together. They kept going on and on about how they did it the old fashion way without stooping to surgery and when that word was used I got upset. I thought it was back handed that they would say that. But like I said before not everyone is educated on WLS.

Andy, I'd also like to add that the obese people who make the comments are also the ones who are too terrified to take the steps to have the surgery themselves.

thank you Jilly for posting this article!!!!! As someone who is still morbidly obese and who was once super morbidly obese (5'10", 500 pounds) this really justifies my decision. sure I was out of control but now I made this decision because I KNEW that trying to do it the regular way would take the rest of my life and there's no guarantee that doing it the other way would work. I would give up eventually. WLS was my only option.

I think you have done a GREAT job so far and you should be so proud of yourself and the choices you have made! WLS is my only option too I feel because I cant stomach anymore Yo Yo diets. I lose then end up gaining back MORE! I need this so I can finally be HEALTHY and I can be around for my kids. I am 282 pounds and only 5'7 so trust me I feel your pain. I am so PROUD of you!!!
