What the heck???

Ever since I got my date 4 weeks ago I have been nothing but excited and anxious (not in a nervous way..in a "I'm ready to get it over with" way).  I've had so many people ask me if I'm nervous and I have always answered 100% truthfully "NOPE!"  Everything fell into place too easily for me to doubt that I have made the right decision.

So why is it that on the day before I start my liquid diet..marking two weeks until surgery..am I suddenly feeling so SAD??   OMG, it just hit me out of nowhere!  This morning I was perfectly fine until just before lunch.  Now..I feel like I'm just going to break down in tears any minute.

Hopefully this is just temporary and it doesn't last until surgery day!

hey Tina,

Feeling sad is very normal. I was distraught when I had to start my liquid diet because I never realized until then that food was a companion for me. Food was my friend, my comforter. This is totally temporary. You'll be getting back with food soon enough......however it'll have a face lift by then You'll be entering the food world with new tastes and new likes and dislikes and once you get off the liquids a few weeks after surgery, everything is going to taste like heaven! I promise you that......the sadness is totally temporary

Hi Tina,
This is something I have seen a lot of on OH.
They call it the "two week freak", and everyone seems to go through it two weeks before surgery.  Don't worry, down the road you will eventually get to eat most foods, just in much smaller portions.  Being sad about being on a liquid diet is understandable.  I was the same when I did medifast because i missed chewing actual food.  Being worried or anxious is natural since you are about to undergo major surgery.
I guess I'll be having a two week freak of my own in about a month!

((((((((Tina)))))))))))) My Surgeon had spoke to us about this during the seminar. He said that a lot of people "Jump Ship" during the two weeks before surgery because of stress and emotions that run wild. It is normal according to him and if you can make it past the two weeks on the liquids before surgery then you will EARN your spot on the Losers bench!! YOU CAN DO IT!!! You have a TON of support here. I envy you...I would LOVE to have them give me my date. IM ANXIOUS! But I bet two weeks before I will be right where you are at this point. YOU CAN DO IT GIRL!!! Im in Pasadena too so if you need anything just HOLLA!! ~Jilly~

Hi Tina,

This happens to most.  The reason why you feel the way you do right now is because your brain is already mourning the food.  So it is all real to you now.

I didn't have the 2 week diet. I felt confident with my decision all the way until the morning of surgery and I was ready to jump out of that chair and run home.  I was scared, sad and everything under the sun.  I am so glad I didn't change my mind it was the best thing I could have ever done for me!

Best of luck on your next two weeks.
Hugs,

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Hey Tina:

I was the same way that Cira described below.  I think we all go through it, maybe not at the same time, but in some shape or fashion.  Just know that this is a part of your journedy and how much better you are going to be because of it!!!!  Be proud that you made a decision to change your life.

Tina,

Like everyone has said your feelings are normal we all have been through it.  I went through what seems to be a "mourning" for all my favorite foods before surgery. Once I had surgery I was too busy following instructions and adapting.  Be sure to use your support system to get you through the days to come and it will help.  Remember in the long run it will be worth it.
Take care

Hugs,
Terri

Tina,
This is totally normal like everyone else said. Our overeating is in a lot of ways totally mental and we spend a lot of time right before surgery and after saying 'good bye' to foods that were our comfort....our best friend...and a constant in our lives. It is sad and totally normal to feel that way. There are STILL times at almost two years out that I get a little sad when I can't have a food that before WLS I could. It's really bad when I'm PMSing LOL I know, maybe TMI but it's true! Just remember that we have all been there, know exactly how you are feeling, you are not alone and yes, this too shall pass. :-)

Thanks everyone. I figured it was probably pretty normal, it just threw me for a loop. I had been so positive, calm and upbeat about it all and then out of nowhere I'm feeling like this.  I imagiine the next couple weeks will be an emotional rollercoaster for me.
