Diets
I go to see Dr. A tomorrow for my seminar and consult. As I was filling out all the paperwork, I had to list all the diets I have ever done. It was scary to see how many I listed (the ones I could remember) and how many I had lost 10-25 lbs or more to only gain it back again plus some extra........

You'll find that this whole process is an emotional rollercoaster - it definitely makes us confront our demons head on. Don't worry, just look at every test, every form, every piece of documentation as a means to an end. One thing, too, you'll definitely not be modest after all of this - your surgeon needs to know you inside AND out.
So take heart in the fact that you're on the road to doing something good for yourself, and do whatever is necessary to get there. I can't even tell you how many diets and programs I tried, only to have the pounds come back and bring friends. It IS discouraging, but this surgery will help you learn good habits to finally maintain your weight loss.
We've all been there and we'll support you through this journey, I promise!!

i thnk we're all in that boat! i tend to not realize how much time as passed. when i filled out my diet history, i was shocked to see on paper how long i have been battling this weight problem. i think that's why it's unbelievable to us that we will actually lose the weight after surgery. i can see all the before and after pictures, but i can't see myself thin.
When I did my diet history, I went back almost 40 years .. I was 54 when I had my surgery and my first round with diet pills was when I was 14.
Best wishes as your WLS journey continues.

Comparison is the thief of joy!
If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished. Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago. I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits! Wherever you are in your journey ... It's ALL good!!!
When I completed the forms, I had documented that my diets started as far back as infancy when my mother was advised to put me on skim milk instead of 4% due to my being a fat baby. I took the reins of dieting after that at the ripe old age of 11! So, when I was seeing the patterns as I wrote everything down, while mind boggling, it actually justified to me that the disease of obesity is not a character flaw or a bad habit. It is a medical condition that is much more hereditary then it is environmental. My nutritionist said the research supports this theory as well. So to me, it meant that WLS was the right option for treating my obesity. No guilt needed.
Melissa,
I am also a patient of Dr. A's office but my surgeon is Dr Moazzez. I also filled out that huge booklet of paperwork and was shocked to realize just how morbidly obese I was. It was like I was in denail that at 340lbs I was seriously endangering my LIFE! I had to continue my "diets" and 25 + loss and regain on to a second page and I thought wow this is so sad. I think that first booklet of paperwork I filled out was my first thing I really had to face head on.Like wow I cant believe I have done this to myself
Good luck with your seminar!!.
