Hey everyone -

Well, if you read my 3 Things Post, you'll see that I've lost 11 pounds in one week.  A wonderful thing, but it certainly didn't happen the right way.  I ALWAYS get all my fluids in, but I just haven't been able to choke down much food, especially when Dad was sick.  I will say, though, that I was surprisingly impressed with the variety of foods offered at the hospital's cafeteria.  Some really good choices, along with the obvious bad ones.  Remember, it's all about choices!!!  Just because you CAN eat something, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Yesterday:

B - Nothing

L - Inside of McD's double cheeseburger

D - PBJ on whole wheat

Yes, I know, I'll try to do better today!!!  Trust me, as much as you guys could beat me, I am my own worst enemy/critic!!!

Hugs,

Tia

my food intake was fine yesterday, but for the first time, i couldn't get something down.  i hadn't eaten to much, so at first, i didn't know what was wrong.  it just got stuck in my lower chest.  then, i did exactly what i was told to not do..i took a drink.  man, i thought i was going to puke.  i ran to the bathroom, ready to stick my finger down my throat if i needed to, but instead two pretty good burbs later and down it went.  in retrospect, i realized that i attempted to eat too soon after loading up on liquids.  i started working from home last thursday and i drink now without thinking about it and i needed to get my lunch in before a conference call and didn't stop to think that my pouch was probably full.  it's so hard to remember everything in the beginning, but i guess this is how you learn.

Yeah, Pam, a painful lesson!!!  You may have taken too big a bite, it may have been dry, who knows.  But yeah, taking a drink on top of stuck food is akin to turning the faucet on a clogged drain - it just backs up.  As time goes on, you'll learn to "listen" to your pouch, and if you feel something get "stuck," and stop right then, it usually will resolve itself.

Also, you won't ALWAYS have to do the no drinking 30 minutes prior, but you WILL always have the period of time after and during, of course.

I promise, after a while, it'll become second nature.

i hope so.  not drinking with meals has been a huge adjustment for me.  it just feel so natural to want to 'washing things down.'
