hello friends.  i've been wondering about something lately.  i am now just about two weeks post-op and everything has been going just fine so far.  in fact, things are going so well that i joke with my husband that i don't believe dvr really did anything.. that it's all a ploy.  ha ha

the only thing lingering from my surgery is the fatigue.  i'm getting out and walking several times a day and i have started to get around town a little bit more by going to the grocery store, the movies, etc.  however, i'm getting tired much more sooner than i ever typically would, which i completely understand.. i had major surgery a couple weeks ago.

however, one thing that my doctors and other patients told me repeatedly before surgery is that i would hit a point at which i would suddenly have a burst of energy and then it would remain.  believe it or not, that was one of the compelling reasons that i went this route.  my weight and my mental outlook kept me extremely busy in front of a computer with school and work, but extremely lazy physically.  i really look forward to having the energy to work in my yard and paint the unpainted rooms in my house, etc.

so, when does this burst of energy hit???  bring it.

After almost being 3 months post op I'm still waiting for that burst of energy too LOL Actually there for a long while it was quite the opposite. The only thing I can really tell you is that there are things that I do now that when I was pre-op I wouldn't even consider. I keep my house cleaner and stuff just because I can not necessarily because I have the energy to do it.

I had a burst of energy this weekend - at six weeks out.  Before that (since surgery), my big ol' butt was dragging.  But now, I seem to be energized.  I just hope it lasts.

well, i will admit that my surgeon did say it would hit around 4 - 6 weeks out, which in his estimate is good because that's when he wants us to start our regular exercise regime.  i was just wondering if people really felt this and when they realized it.

Hi Pam!!!

I wondered, too, if I'd actually had the surgery - and I'm here to tell you, 3 years later, that I most emphatically did!!!

As far as a "burst" of energy, for me, I think it was more a gradual realization that I could do more things and for longer periods of time, than before.  Even if it meant doing laundry all day on a Saturday without needing Sunday to rest up, walking up a flight of steps without needing to sit, walking through a mall without my pinched nerve acting up, etc.  One day, it was just like, "Wow!  That was pretty cool!"

Keep in mind that everyone is different, everyone's results are different and everyone heals differently.  That being said, your body is STILL in major recovery mode - it's likely saying, "WTF did you DO to me????"  Your continued compliance with your protein and liquids intake will help immensely with that.

Strap yourself in, baby, this is a heck of a ride!!!!!

yeah I totally agree with you Tia! i definitely have more stamina than ever. I can do things for much longer periods of time than ever before. That's much like when I walk on the treadmill. I can walk and walk and walk and my upper body never gives out. I'm barely breaking a heavy breath but my legs and muscles start to hurt and that usually tells me to stop. It's not necessarily energy.....but you can go the distance!
