question?

Hey Char,

I had RNY so I am not sure if the drain is the same.  I had a JP (Jackson Pratt) drain and it was there for a week.  The bulb on the end where the fluid collects looks like a hand grenade.  I didn't feel anything painful around the drain.  It was a long plastic tubing that came from an incision site and had drained to a bulb aka grenade.  I had to drain it a few times per day and measure the amount of fluid that was drained from it and report that info to my Dr. when I went back for my 1 week checkup.  The thing that was the most difficult to me was the fact that I had to safety pin the bulb portion to my clothing and found myself getting something caught on it occasionally and pulling, after the 2nd or 3rd time of doing that I learned my lesson that I had to be careful.  I had it in for a week and it was more of an necessary incovenience than anything else.

I hope this helps.

I had a JP drain, and while it wasn't painful at all, it was freaky as heck when it was removed.

Imagine a pull-start on a push lawnmower.

That's what it reminded me of.  Again, not painful, but just weird when it was removed with one big, quick tug.

Good luck with yours!

thank you, it just is going to be really weird to me but if it gets me my operation, I will tolerate it! LOL
