i figure it's your life, you should be the one to determine what is healthy for you. you are living in your body so you should know best. doctors don't know everything and their goals may not be your goals. i for one do not care to be thin. i want to have a little junk in the trunk. but as long as i'm exercising and eating right, that will be fine w/ me. i do definitely want to get below 200. that would be lovely.
My MD set a goal of 200 for me. That is 25 lbs. more than my goal was when I was in my 20s. My MD is allowing some extra for age. With my frame and being 6'2", that might be a good amount or might not. So my plan is to work toward his goal first and then see what my body wants to do. If it wants to go lower, then I will go with it.
I'm a firm believer in as long as you feel good, are satisfied with the outwardly appearance and your blood work comes back good across the board, then the scale is just a number. Obviously, if you're carrying too much weight you are putting unnecessary stress on your heart and eventually it can catch up with you. But, if you're within, say 20-30 pounds of your goal and you feel good, think you look good and you lab work is all good, then that's up to you whether you want to keep losing.
I know my goal was the same as my surgeon's - 190. I reached that and kept going down to 182. I have to admit, it felt great to look at the scale and see that number, but I also know I didn't look healthy. It's also about that time that I started getting serious about my physical fitness and got into weight training as well. I am now around 195 pounds and I know a lot of that weight gain is from muscle mass. I look MUCH healthier at a toned 195 than I did as a too-thin 182.
We all have different body types and, therefore, all of our cases are different. To heck with a specific number, I say. Only you know where you want to stop and then maintain.

My doctor never set an ideal weight for me. On the BMI calculators I need to be 123 to be within the 'normal' range. I'm at 130 now. My doctor doesn't want me to lose anymore. I'm stalled in my weight loss anyway but I would really like to get to 120. There, I may have some play room. I'm only 5 foot. Karen
Hi everyone. I have lurked for weeks and not posted much on Maryland or Lap forums. I've been going through some pretty tough relationship trauma and just haven't had the energy. But, while I'm working on it, the big positive outcome is that for the first time in a long time, I KNOW I'm in control of my destiny and will do what I want, and that feels good.

Dr. Moein never mentioned a weight....just asked where I wanted to be. I'm 5'4" and was happier than happy at 150, so that's my goal (for now). It's still technically "overweight," but if I never lost another pound, I'd be happy there. That's 38 more pounds to go.

So far my doctor hasn't mentioned a specific weight goal. Supposedly based on having a medium frame, I should be between 130 and 143. However, back in my early to mid twenties I got down to 155 and people thought I looked too thin. I'm going to let me body tell me when I'm at my ideal weight.
