I got my pap smear results back and was told that I have pre cancerous cells and need to get a colposcopy. i asked her if i should be worried and she said the worst that could happen is they would need to remove the cells. regardless, anything with the word cancer is hard to deal with and i'm a little emotional right now. i guess i just need someone to tell me it's going to be alright. thanks.

(((((Nicole)))))

I once had a pap come back negative (they never told me what it was) but I had to get one of those scopy testes (not sure if it is the same one but it could be........not painful at all just a little uncomftorable like a pap and go home and rest, I walked walmart with my mom and bad idea)

But they did it and it was nothing. But just take it one day at a time and schedule your test asap so you can get it taken care of

Nicole:
It's hard to deal with that word and I really hate it:  Cancer (there I said it).  As soon as they say it in a sentence, you hear nothing else.  But they did say pre-cancerous.  So go have your colonoscopy done and if there is something there, they will probably remove it while they are there.  I haven't had to go through a colonoscopy, but my husband has.  They did remove some polops that were pre-cancerous and nothing more.  I had an incident of cancer about 13 years ago and I can remember hearing that words said to me as if it were yesterday.  The hard part is waiting, so try to remain calm and get to that appointment.  If you need to talk, I'm here!

Same diagnosis for my sister about 10 years ago, I remember the day well, because it scared the crap out of her, us too.  She had another test or two run, probably the same one you're about to have, then she had a small outpatient procedure where the cells were scraped off of her cervix, we took her for a burger afterward since she was starving (they wouldn't let her eat after midnight the night before the procedure).  She slept a couple more hours and went to work the next day.  She complained of a cramp or two but she never looked back and has a beautiful 6 year old son today.  Hope this helps.  Remain positive, listen to your doctor.
 Prayers for you

thanks you guys. i just talked to my mommy (she's still my mommy when times are tough) and she said she had it done many years ago and is fine so i shouldn't worry. so i'm going to assume it's nothing serious until i have a reason to feel otherwise. can't wait til this is over!

Hey Nicole,

Honey, it's your body and your life and you probably reacted the way most of us would act if there was a prognosis with the word cancer involved.  But, keep a few things in mind.  One, as someone already said, they did say precancerous.  There is a difference.  Another thing to be thankful for is that you were tested this early and they found any potential problem VERY early.  And lastly, with everything you've gone through with wls, you are a very strong person.  These "precancerous cells" don't stand a chance.  Besides, you've got the greatest group of friends to help you through this.  Keep smiling and stay strong my friend.

Hi Nicole - I actually have some experience with this.  I had an irregular pap over a year ago.  I had to have a colposcopy - that wasn't bad but definately not the most pleasant experience of my life.  Since then I had to start taking a prescription strength folic acid and get paps every three months until I get 4 in a row that are regular.  I just went last Friday hopefully for my fourth and final.  Keeping my finger crossed that it comes out clean.  I have really gotten to know my gny very well during this time.  I am not saying not to worry because in the back of my mind, yes I was worried.  I didn't dwell on it becuase I wanted to keep my life as normal as possible.  Get your test schedyled as soon a possible and keep positive.   (((HUGS)))  PM me if you want to talk!

Nic, just as many others have posted, I had an irregular pap come back several years ago. The colposcopy didn't show anything that they needed to worry about. They determined that it was actually some sort of infection, and I just had to go for paps every 6 months for 2 years, and after those were all normal I am back to once a year again.

Keep thinking positive thoughts, as I will for you as well. Schedule your test as soon as you can, so you can get piece of mind back. You can PM or call me anytime if you need to talk!

Big hugs!!
Hugs!

Same thing happened to me about 9-10 years ago.  Culposcopy came back negative.  Had to have a pap in 6 months and then another 6 months after that.  Other than some cramping, it was no big deal.
