I am on my lunch break at work, sipping crystal light and I started thinking some things....I have always, I mean, always been a heavy soda drinker, and since discovering this group, first I cut back on my soda drinking and for almost 2 weeks, I have not drank a soda....I tried a sip of one two days ago, and I shuddered when I drank it...i didn't like, this is a big change for me...I have always drank 4 or 5 sodas a day, the 20 ounce bottles...for me...this is different...I am not as thirsty anymore, I used to always be thirsty even with drinking all of that....I sip water or crystal light all day long, have my protein drinks...and I am feeling better about myself, even if I haven't lost much!

That's GREAT! I understand completely, I was a heavy diet caffeine free soda drinker for decades. I am amazed now, that I do not even crave it any more. Another positive, by making what changes you can now, that will be one less change to make after surgery.

another thing you will notice is that things are alot sweeter than they used to be. i used to love orange juice but now i have to half it with water. i actually like grapefruit juice. i've never liked it before. that is so great that you are making these changes now so that when the surgery comes, you aren't miserable cuz you can't do what you used to. don't worry too much about the weight. the thing to focus on is your eating habits. also, doing some form of physical activity every day would also help. i avoided doing that and i still lost weight but not alot. now i am dedicated to exercising every week day and doing some form of physical activity on the weekends. it's a major lifestyle change but i'm told if i do it 30 days straight, it will become a habit. this is my second week. keep your fingers crossed.

nicole...things do taste sweeter....already, like with the crystal light, I have to use 40 ounces per each pack to taste almost not too sweet...even then it still tastes a little too sweet but that's my biggest cup! LOL

Exercise...if I had time, I would...but I guess running up and down three levels of the house taking care of animals is considered exercise! LOL

I was addicted to diet Pepsi.  I sware they put something in that soda that made me want more and more.  Then they introduced Diet Cherry Pepsi:  I couldn't get enough.  That was the one big thing that I had to give up for my surgery.  I waited until 2 weeks before my surgery and went through all the caffein withdraws and everything.  It was very difficult so I know what an accomplishment it is for you!  Keep up the good work and it will come off with time!!!

Knowing that I'd have to give it up sooner or later, I gave up soda several months ago as well as caffeine.  Except for a couple of times, I haven't had any since.  I thought it would be difficult since I drank about 6-8 diet sodas a day - at least 2 with caffeine.  Surprisingly it hasn't been that difficult and when I have had some it's made my stomach feel gurgly, if that's a word, and so not worth it.  Crystal Light, Sugar-free Hawaiian Punch, and Propel packets are now my best friends.
