It's something at least!
Hi Jennifer,
I have Cigna and they dragged their feet until I could just scream! I finally went to my PCP and obtained copies and hand delivered them to my surgeon. I also got the dates of the faxes sent from my surgeon to Cigna and then called Cigna. When presented with the dates sent the magically found the requests and info.
After being denied twice, my surgeon did a peer to peer conference call with the Cigna med director. Cigna was now making up required documentation to be sent for review. My surgeon reminded the director that Maryland has LAWS that prohibit additional requests if all the initial criteria is met.
I did my homework too. I asked Cigna to send me the policy that I had and I read it to see what exactly was covered and what were the requirements. You can call Aetna for a progress update. Be sure to ask for and record your case number.
When talking to Cigna (which I did daily) I had to remind them that I had a WLS benefit in my policy and that I did not have to have a BMI over 40 for 12 months. My requirement was 35.0 with medical co-morbidities (Diabetes/ sleep apnea/ hypertension and fatty liver disease).
This time it was approved in 48 hours.
Good Luck,
Lee

Hi Lee,
Good luck Monday! I already said so on your surgery support page but it never hurts to say itn again! Thanks for the support and yes, insurance companies can be difficult to deal with, but it sounds like after going through the review and appeal process you got what you wanted and that is what really counts! Good for you. Take care and happy healing. Remember what they all say, sip sip sip, walk walk walk, and rest rest rest. Hugs,

Yup that is my husband Mike.
Thanks for the compliment. ((Hugs)))
Yup I am with you on the fear. I just get so scared because its major MAJOR surgery and when I hear that I cringe. Then Mike says "Jill you had 4 c sections with 3 kids and that was MAJOR SURGERY so you can do this!" When he says that it calms me down some. With my second child I had an emergency section and was scared to death. When I finally got to my room I had a 105 fever and chills then the nurses came in my room screaming that an instrument was unaccounted for and I had to go BACK in the OR and get reopened. So I had 2 c sections in one morning. It was ROUGH! Bleeeek! So he always tells me if you can go through that and then 2 more c-sections later on then YOU CAN DO THIS! ;o)
I am ready though. I want to change my life for the better. (((Hugs))) ~Jilly~
