okay, see...I am already drawing a blank...these are the only other questions I can think of?  any other question suggestions would be welcomed and appreciated very much!

What size bougie do you use?

How about the staple line, how do you do that, what type of staples?

How long is the hospital stay?

What are your preop and postop requirements?

Try not to worry about asking the right questions although you have some good ones already. With Dr. Averbach and his staff all your questions and concerns will be addressed before you have time to answer them, at least that was the way with me and trust me when I tell you I was a worry wart not to mention really hyper about the whole process when I started.   Best of luck and please keep us posted!!!

Do you have someone who can go with you to the appointment?  A second pair of ears is a wonderful thing to have!  I know that I was very nervous when I had my first consultation with my original surgeon and wished that I had taken someone with me to that appointment.  I agree with Terri in that Dr. A will most likely answer many of the questions that you don't even know you have right now.  Between him, Cathy, Arlene and the others, you will be very well informed about the surgery.  I've had the sleeve so if you want to know more, please contact me.  Deb

I asked questions like....

1. How big or small will my pouch be?

2. How much intestine is being bypassed? will it be distal or proximal?

3. How much weight I need to lose (the doctor's goal)

4. Can someone stay over night with me?

5. What are the risks involved with the surgery?

6. If you have your gall bladder still will you need meds to take always after surgery?

7. Will my surgery be Lap or open? What are the chances that it may end up being an open surgery?

The pre op and post requirements are going to be told to you by the nurse who in going to give you all that information plus the nutritionist will tell you in deatial what you need to do..

Those are questions I asked my dr.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind.

Write them down and ask them all! I took a list of questions with me to the info seminar at JH the other night. The ones they didn't answer in their presentation, I asked. I even had a couple of people tell me thanks for asking them after the presentation. "The only stupid question is the one not asked". I'm bet you couldn't come up with any that they haven't been asked before! Penny

I would encourage you to write down any questions you may have. I took a pad with me to the info session and took notes. When I went for my consult I wrote down additional questions and asked the Dr.  von Rueden to clarify some of the info he went over at the seminar. I also had a list of questions for the nutritionist also.

Always remember- The only dumb question is the one you do not ask...
