first and foremost, thank you guys so much for the awesome messages and prayers. the support on this board is just amazing! and thank you to terri - the most awesomest angel that anyone can have! i know i drove her crazy the last two days when i just couldn't talk.
my surgery took a little longer than usual. evidently, i had a lot of adhesions from earlier surgeries and he had to cut through them. i was in there for about 3.5 hours. he also told me something about my intestines not running in the path that they typically run, but honestly, i don't remember that exactly and will have to have him explain that to me when i go in for my post-op appt.
after a 3.5 hour surgery, they had to keep me in recovery until 8:30 that night because they had no bed and room for me! not kidding. so, i finally get to my room and i'm still pretty drugged and i had a nurse with an accent that i couldn't understand in the least bit. i felt so badly too, but it was so frustrating. the first night was pretty uneventful except that i realized at about 1 a.m. that the things on my legs were not inflating and had not been inflating ever since i got to my room. well, that was because they forgot to plug them in. then i felt like i could get up to walk and was told repeatedly that they were too busy! so, my first night left me sort of annoyed because things weren't going as i expected them to go in spite of the fact that i felt okay.
i finally got up to walk in the morning. most of the day was okay until i realized that they had removed my catheter at 10:30 and it was now 4 p.m. and i had not urinated and my lower abdomen was extended and i was in pain. so, back in went the catheter just long enough to empty my bladder and hopefully stimulate things into working normally. well, they did... except i now had this excruciating pain in my right side. so, my night consisted of every three hours waking up when the pain meds wore off, urinating and then doubling over in pain that was worse than being in labor. i thought something major had to be wrong.
however, when dvr came in this morning, he decided that it was likely my drainage tube causing the problems. he said he sounded like it was either plugged or poking my colon. so he decided to pull it out. i have never in my life gone from so much pain to no pain just like that. he pulled that out and just like that.. no pain. if i had known that, i would have pulled it out hours earlier! ha ha
so, today was spent getting some tests run just to make sure all was well and apparently it was because they finally sent me home around 4 p.m. i am now comfortably sore and sipping my unjury broth. MUCH better than that flavorless stuff in the hospital. i'm very happy to be home. i'm also very happy to have this board and all the wonderful people on it!!

Pamela I am so happy you are hope and doing well. Thanks for updating us. I had some similar situations with the nursing staff at St. agnes with the nurses. I was not impressed with the care I got from the nurses, they were impersonal and always too busy to help you. My surgeon was fantastic and I really like everyone in his office. At the hospital they left those white stockings on me until I got bleeding scars in the crease of my leg down near my feet I kept begging them to remove them but they would not. Dr. Averbach came in and told them to get them off. Two months later I still have the scars. Anyway, I am so happy you are home. I am the one that come to Millersville alot because my kids live there so if there is anything I can do for you just PM me. Take care - sip, walk, sip walk!!

Hi Pamela,
Welcome home! I am so glad that you are doing well. I am sorry you had to deal with the nursing staff at night. I had the most horrible care at GBMC by the nurses only at night. During the day they were wonderful. DVR is great and I am glad he figured out the drain was bugging you. Lucky you that you got it taken out so early. I dealt with that thing for 1 week Yuck!
Take care make sure to walk, sip walk and sip some more.
Welcome to the Loser's bench!
I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Welcome to the Losers bench
So glad it was just the drain tube. I had to go home with that one and my husband was cleaning and re-dressing it and moved it wrong and the pain was insane. But when they took it out I felt like I could jump off the walls.
Here's to a speedy recovery and hope to see you at the Crofton Group on the 31st.
take care
