Update from Sweetbea's husband

Sweetbea (Leigh Rutter) asked me to post for everyone here.

She woke up Friday with extreme pains in her abdomen and side and it radiated up through her shoulders. I was at work and she called me to let me know she was calling 911.

I came from Baltimore up to Bel Air to find her at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center with my parents. We sat in the ER for over six hours until they determined that she had free air in her system from a perforation in her digestive tract (somewhere). Since they didn't know exactly where it was they had to do exploratory surgery immediately and found a hole where her pouch meets her intestines. They said it was the size of a pinky finger tip.

She was "patched up" and is now recovering well at the ICU at Upper Chesapeake. She is on morphine so she is sleeping alot, but all the nurses and doctors say she is doing well and should be ready for a swallow test Monday.

We don't know if this is why she was having difficulty eating solid foods, but we will be following up with her bariatric surgeon sometime in the next week or two.

She wanted to make sure I posted so evryone knew what was going on. I will try to update later.

Wow, that sucks but I'm glad to hear that the problem was found and that she was patched up.

I went back and read Sweetbea's posts from a few days ago and I certainly hope that Dr. Moien gets a reality check from this and makes sure that he has time for his patients from now on.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Heather

Thank you so much for the update!! I am so sorry she got so sick and I am glad that the ER dr's figured out her problem. It could have gotten really ugly if no one would have figured out.

I am so upset about how Dr Moein's staff treated Leigh and how she was blown off.  I would definitely make a big stink about it.

Let her know tht she is in my thoughts and prayers for a swift recovery.  I hope she can eat normal soon.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Thank God that the ER was sufficiently in-tune to the special needs of bariatric patients. I am so glad that the problem was identified and the right action taken. I am definitely sorry that she and her family had to go through this, but am hopeful for the future. Best Wishes! Debbie
