Deep for a Monday but I like it! :-) I'm on the fence about the homeless people in Baltimore City and in other areas and giving to them. Near my work there is a guy who sits at a crossroad and begs for $ every day and has been doing it for more than 10 years. I refuse to give him money but I have given him an umbrella and a sandwich a couple of different times. Rumor has it that he's actually not homeless and just does this as his 'job'. Granted there are people out there that do need the help and are 100% legit about it so that's where it comes do I give or don't I?  I donate to St. Jude and for prostate cancer research but that's about it. As far as the whole 'pay it forward' I did something like that the other week. I found an ATM card left in the bank machine, called my bank and gave the info and returned the card to that branch the following Monday. I was told that was a very nice thing to do and my response was that I would want someone to do that for me....so maybe a mix of 'paying it forward' and Karma all in the same boat.

Hey Jen: Thanks for posting this one.  I definately give for me.  It makes me feel good to help other people.  Still I have a hard time giving $ to people begging on the street.  Last year I did the NYC relief bus twice.  They feed people on the streets of NY.  It was an overwhelming experience and I came back humbled and thankful for everything that I have been given or achieved in this life.   When I was young (11) my mother and my siblings and I were forced into a women's domestic violence shelter.  I can recall having the same blue shirt and white pants on for weeks.  We had nothing.  I remember taking off those clothes and throwing them in the trash, vowing to never be placed in that position again.  I believe that some people can overcome their situation and strive for better, but there are others with mental issues that are unable to care for themselves.  Then there are those that choose to do other things before taking care of their needs.  Addicts, who still need our help, but not by us enabling their addiction. Thanks to everyone who cares enough to help!!

Hey Lisa, Thanks for posting and sharing a little for your story.  I agree with you some people can correct their situation and then others have the daily struggle.  My sister gave me a look when i gave the guy money and told me later he is always there with the suitcase and same sad story.  She tole me next time I should buy him some food instead.  Sigh....

Jen: It's so hard to say NO.  I think we (women) want to take care of everything and everyone.   Where do you live in Frederick?  I used to live in New Market in the Meadows.
