Hey guys, does anyone know of places in the baltimore city/county or harford county area that do cooking classes? i've already looked at the community colleges and they really don't have much. I've found places that are too far away, ie reisterstown/gaithersburg. that is too far for me. any help would be great!

What do you cook now?  What types of foods do you WANT to learn to cook?  When I get back from the beach on July 26, why don't we get together at your place for a day and I'll show you my bag of tricks? I've been cooking since I was 12 and love it!! Haven't killed anyone either!!!  Plus, we can chat while we're working!!! Tia

tia that would be awesome. i think my main sticking point is learning how to come home, make a meal that doesn't take two hours, that is good for us. protein with something good tasting on top. i have the skills, just not the mindset. i need hand holding i think lol.

Okay, so we'll plan on doing that.  Sure, I'll hold your hand - as long as I have a hand free for the Arbor Mist!! As far as putting a meal together in under two hours - one word - CROCKPOT!!!  Or two - SLOW COOKER!!!  If you don't have one, get one.  They're soooooo inexpensive, too. A great site is www.allrecipes.com, even though I consider myself to be an accomplished cook, I love this site!!!! Tia

I second the allrecipes site.  My best recipes come from there!  If it's not 5 star rated (or close to it), I don't even look at it.  Crockpot is great, I love mine.  Another idea, cook up some meals on the weekend and freeze them. Then you'll always have something good, quick, and easy to make even on the days when you come home from work and don't feel like cooking.  That is my downfall, when I'm tired I just pick something up on the way home because I don't feel like thinking hard enough to come up with something to make.  Have any of you ever tried "Let's Dish"?  www.letsdish.com  Great concept but a bit pricey in my opinion. Maybe we need to start a group that gets together and does it on our own. :) Tina

Hey Tina - One of the best features of allrecipes is that you can type in ingredients you have and they'll come up with a recipe - like, if you only have beans, ground beef and tomatoes - they'll come up with something!! I always wanted to do Let's Dish, but my research shows it IS pricey.  Not worth it to me. Hugs, Tia

i also use recipezaar.com. i like that place. i've done the whole cook on the weekends and freeze and it works out ok. but i'm really looking to go to a class to inspire me to cook more. i'm in a doldrum right now. tons of recipes but afraid to do anything. i just need to push myself. and lets dish sounds cool but i really want to do it for myself. that way i know exactly what i am putting my body.

We have a friend that lives up in Edgewood, it's only about 45 min from me. :)  I may take you up on it.  I LOVE to cook.  Tina
