I am SO glad I called my insurance company!

i called this week on the advice of those here because i hadn't heard anything and it was killing me because i was told that aetna will usually return a decision in less than a week.  spoke to a very, very nice man in the pre-certification department.  he told me they had just received the paperwork from the doctor.  of course, i was upset, but i've also learned that you never know who to believe either.  so, i didn't call my dr's office or anything because at least i knew they had received it.  thinking i had another week to wait.... i just received a call from the same very nice man at the insurance company letting me know i had been approved!!!  i never expected them to actually follow up with me.  i am just soooo excited.  no chance i'm going to be able to wait for DVR's office to call me.  do you think they will be annoyed if i call them???  heck, they may not even know yet.  LOL thank you thank you thank you for all of those that PM'd me and said CALL CALL CALL.

Pam: They know.  Call them any way.  Congratulations!!!!!  I know I was bouncing off the walls when I got my news.  Now take a deep breath because you're going to have to do some more testing (probably) and wait a little while longer.  You're getting closer!!!!!

That is awesome news! Yay!  I called my insurance company yesterday and they haven't received anything from the surgeons office. It's been two weeks since my appointment with the surgeon and I gave them everything they needed at the time so I'm not sure what the hold up is.  Wonder if I should call the dr's office or be a bit more patient?  Tina

If you made copies of what you gave the surgeons office, then I would go ahead and fax that to the insurance...

the consensus i received from folks here is call.  quite a few people PM'd me and said they prolonged their wait by not calling.  maybe they need another piece of information from you and just haven't called you yet.  or maybe they sent it and the problem is on the insurance end.  i would definitely call your doctor's office.  however, i understand your trepidation because i have that constantly. i did call DVR's office and they had not yet gotten anything, but rose said she would call aetna and get it and pass it along to barbie.  she said barbie would probably call later today or tomorrow to schedule my date.  tomorrow?  NO WAY.  hahahaha
