How long were you out of work with RNY?

my bosses are very supportive of what i'm attempting to do.  they are also willing to let me work from home during my recovery.  however, i'm unsure how much time i should take as medical leave versus time spent actually working from home.  if i'm out of work for 7 consecutive work days, i am paid through short-term disability and i have to have it certified through human resources.  however, i can take only five sick days and then begin to work from home and completely leave human resources out of the equation.  i guess my concern is weather i'm biting off more than i can chew (no pun intended) by planning to work five days post-op.  my doctor's office has stated that it's very common to physically return to work after two weeks at home.  however, i'm reading in many places that people needed upwards of four weeks to recover enough to return to work.  i would love to hear about some of the recovery times/return to work times of those on the boards that have had RNY laproscopically.

I also had the ability to work from home. I was feeling pretty good after 1 week. But you are not 100% used to your routine yet. I was consumed with keeping track of all the things I had to do, so I planned to go back to work after 2 weeks. In my case, I had a set back when I dehydrated. So I gave myself an extra week. Then I started working from home.

I bounced back pretty quick.  I'm a programmer so my job isn't very strenuous.  I also had access to short term disability benefits which I tapped into.  I was off work from the 8th to the 27th and I probably could have gone back sooner but I didn't want to LOL

Out from May 20th, back to work on June 2nd.  A little less than 2 weeks.  I came back with 1/2 a pain pill the first day.  What I mistake, I was zoned out, sitting at my desk.  1/4 of a pill the next day and was a little better.  After that, nothing.  I just took it easy, and no lifting.

I was out of the office a full 2 weeks, then worked 5 hour days the first week back, then 6 to 7 hour days the next week, by 4 weeks post op I was working full 8 plus hour days without any problem. My job is an office/desk job which can make a difference. I never took any pain medication after I left the hospital and have never (4 plus years later) had any problem with fatigue or energy. Best wishes as your WLS journey continues, Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

I was out a few days. I am a teacher, and I have a full time aide in my class. My surgery was on Tuesday. I wnet back the following Monday. That week I only worked half a day. The following week, I was back full days.  I felt tired that first week, but the second week I was fine.  Best wishes

Everyone is different, but I had my surgery on a Wednesday, on Saturday I went to Costco and had them put tires on my car and on Monday, just 6 days after my surgery I was on a listing appointment and listed the house (and the clients never knew I had surgery). I felt great, and even told my doctor that if not for the scars on my belly, and a little gas pain in my shoulder,  bodywise I didn't even feel like I had surgery, and none of my friends could believe it. I took it easy by not picking up anything heavy and the only exercise I did was walking for a few weeks.

I was totally the same way!  I was like "are you sure you did something in there?"  but the only time I knew that something had been done was when I ate LOL
