What are you doing that I'm not?

Nicole: It's so hard to get everything down.  I'm stressing at every little ounce that I put in my mouth.  Is this okay to eat, does it have enough protein, is it going to stay down, am I eating enough, am I eating too much.  I think I'm stressing my body out.  Every time I try to eat something that I know has a lot of protein, tuna, chicken, turkey, it doesn't sit right in my stomach and comes right back up.  So I opt for something that I know will stay down, SF pudding, SF popsicle, SF applesauce.  Yesterday I caught myself reverting to my old ways when I was standing at the counter in the kitchen eating barbeque potato chips.  Luckily I could only get down about 10 before my stomach told me no more.  But this is where I've failed in all the other diets.  I'm so afraid of failing now that this is my "last chance."

ok babe breathe in and out. what you need to do is get some good protein powders. stop trying to eat the real food for now. obviously that is too much for you right now. plus you are too stressed and worried which is aggravating everything. i am using this stuff called whey gourmet which is actually really good. you can buy it at bariatriceating.com. have you tried protein drinks yet? what have you tried? they aren't working for you?

for the acheivone i had the cappacino and it tasted JUST like a frappacino drink. very good. for the protein drink, i have had the cookies and cream. tastes very good. i would suggest making it with milk instead of water (more protein) and not using as much of the protein powder. it can be a little sweet. otherwise, tastes great!

Are you keeping your food diary still?  I'm finding that all the paperwork that mary B has given me is just a guideline as to what you can have.  When you actually get that food, look at what's on the box for your nutritional numbers.  For the first few weeks, I was shoving in close to 80 grams of protein a day with everything I was eating.  I was putting protein powder in everything!  With unjury, you get 20 grams of protein in one scoop!  Sure it's nasty and sickeningly sweet but I can stand it for the five minutes I'm drinking it then go back to my regular fluids. I think you're like me, you're afraid of hurting yourself......with whatever you have for your meals, just make sure to get your protein portion of the meal in first even if that's all you can eat. For me, if I miss a day of working out, I don't lose any weight.  So the workouts are really good for you too and I'm proud of you for doing what you're doing in that area. make sure you post in the daily feedbag.....that way we can tell what you're eating (make sure you measure measure measure) and maybe offer some advice.

Hey Aaron: Thanks for answering.  I am still keeping my food diary and it's very depressing.  Looks like I'm not eating anything at all.  So that's why I don't understand why the weight is not falling off.  Monday was B - Cheese stick, L - Low Sugar Oatmeal with protein powder and a yogurt, D - Bouillion and a SF popsicle.  Yesterday was like this (I know it was bad and I fell off the wagon) B - 1 scrambled egg (75 calories), S - 1 p.butter cracker (33 calories), L - 1/2 slice of cheese pizza (140 calories), D - 1/2 of a grilled chiken breast w/honey mustard sauce (100 calories ~ came right back up), SF popsicle (20 calories) and Yogurt (80 calories), and then I had a handful of bbq chips (100 calories, est) + 548 calories.  I asked Dr. K about my body holding on to calories or if he believed in "starvation mode" and he said if you are outputting more energy then the intake of calories then you will burn fat.  So why is it not adding up on the scale?  I will try more protein powder and I'll let you know how it goes.  I just don't want to fail.  I've been there, done that and don't want to be there anymore.

Heya Lisa, For breakfast you need 2 proteins and 1 fat.......so you can have two scrambled eggs with a teaspoon of butter (if it's regular butter....I use Smart Balance butter so I can use a tablespoon) for lunch, you need 1 protein, 1 carb, 1 veg and 1 fat..eat your protein first.  For me that is usually either chicken salad (1/4 cup with the fat already in it via mayo), a few grapes and about 6 ounces of V8 or tomato juice since I hate mushy cooked veggies for dinner is usually a repeat of lunch except I may switch out the chicken salad with 1/2 cup of cottage cheese (the recommended serving size on the package of cottage cheese to maximize the protein in it....fat free of course), about 7 crackers with laughing cow spreadable cheese on them.   Now for my dinner, I usually have to take a small 1 or 2 minute break to be able to digest everything.  Also you should make sure you're eating your meal in 10 to 15 minutes.  After 15 minutes, cut yourself off. The 30-90 minute rule for drinking really has been a hard one for me especially when getting all my fluids in but once I hit that 90 minute mark, the very first thing I drink is a protein shake and then continue with my water, tea whatever. This is about 600 - 700 calories for me.  Now this works for me and it's really all about chemistry when you think about it.  I'm utterly afraid of going into the world of regular food which I'll hit in a couple weeks but I can tell you that I have slowed down on the weightloss mainly because I hadn't been getting to the gym as usual as I was before.

Hi lisa, Some really good comments and suggestions on this post.  I had surgery three days after you and I have not had any meats yet, I tried tuna but it got stuck and so did a scrambled egg. My diet consists of cottage cheese, cheese sticks, ricotta cheese, sf popsicles, sf jello and pudding, yogurt dannon light and fit, PB crackers, Sf applesauce, tomatoe soup, cream of chicken soup and  I try to get two protein drinks in a day and try to get fluids.  I struggle with the fluids,I am really trying to work on that.   You are fortunate that you are able to excercise, I have not been able to barely walk around due to this low blood pressure when I stand up.  I think the key is the protein and water because I have only lost 28 pounds. But I just try to stay the course and take it one day at a time.  At first I thought I should lose more, I changed my focus to eating the  right stuff, doing what I am suppose to because I fear I don't focus on being positive and learning how to eat properly in the long run I will not be successful.   Another thing that is helpful, I don't focus on calories of food,I focus on the protien content and the sugar content, I make sure it has no bad sugars (the "oses") and it has 7 grams or less.   Hang in there and try to not  project and take it one day at time.  Congratulation on the 20 pounds and as you said, if it were not for WLS you would not have lost that.  Talk with you soon.
