Question??? 6 days post op.
Was it Open or Lap? That can make the difference too. Depending on the incision site and everything but I agree.....call your doc and see what they say. BTW is it because of pain that you can't get up on your own? I couldn't lie down for awhile and had to sleep in a recliner for awhile.
Take care!

OK I know it hurts and no of course you don't need to overdo it but you have to get up and move. The more you move the faster you will heal and the quicker the pain will go away. It could also be a build up of gas which getting up and moving around will help relieve. Also, if you put a ton of pillows on your bed and sleep that way, it's better than trying to lay down.

Calling the doctor is a good thing to do. You are now 6 days post op and when I was 6 days and even for awhile after I had problem getting up and down, did not sleep in bed for about 2weeks. I just use to hold a small pillow up to my stomach for support and get up that will help. I called the nurse Cathy at the Doctors office and she told me that the support was good and that there is alot of internal work that has been done and it is not uncommon to be sure and have pressure for awhile. Hope you feel better soon. Terri
I, too, had surgery on 6/10, and I am feeling horrible. I can get out of bed on my own, but I still feel totally miserable.
I am draining considerable amounts of fluid and it is STILL really bright red...it hasn't changed color at all since the surgery. Even now it is the color of a strawberry diaquari mix.
But even worse for me is the tightness I am feeling around my abdominal cavity. It makes it difficult to even breathe. If someone were to come at me with a large sharp needle, it feels like I'd go "ba-boom!!!!" just like a huge water balloon. As a for instance, just yesterday alone, one 24-hour period had me discharging 385 cc's of dark red liquid.
During my hospitalization, I was taken to the Surgical ICU, where I was given three blood transfusions to fend off all of my bleeding, and I also had two injections of insulin, because my blood glucose level spiked up to 244 (and I'm NOT diabetic!).
Apparently, people go through this surgery in many different ways: some go through with no difficulties at all, and some go through with great struggles and pain. I fall in to the later category.
Hope you continue to feel better and improve as the days go by.
