Weight loss slow down

I’m 4 months out and this past month my weight loss has slowed down sometimes I go a week without losing a pound. I am exercising just about every day but my appetite is back. I guess this means the honeymoon is over? I still can’t eat a lot, but the difference is now I want to eat. Is this typical of what others have gone through?

Mary,  I had my surgery the same day as you ( I remember you speeding past me and my husband as we were doing laps around the unit!)  and I have had the same thing.  But what I noticed is that although my weight hasn't changed drastically like it was, my measurements  are still shring, and I see myself getting smaller.  I think our bodies have to go through occasional adjustment periods.  Hope all is well otherwise. remember this isn't a race. focus on all the healthy changes you've made. you are now exercising again and eating better. the weight will eventually come off. i am so proud of you. you are doing so well. be grateful you had a honeymoon phase. I didn't and have struggled from the beginning to eat right. I don't regret surgery but it hasn't brought me the lack of appetite I needed. but i'm going to keep trucking as well. I've lost weight and have started making changes in my habits. i may not lose the weight on the schedule everyone says I should. but as long as it happens before I die, i'm all good.

Mary, I'm almost two years out and no, your honeymoon period isn't over yet. That takes about a year for most people. I remember having that same issue about 5 months out and then it started again. Don't worry, it'll start up again. I do remember also wanting to eat more of a variety of foods at that time which I loved. Remember, you are only 4 months out. Give your body and mind time to adjust to everything that has been going on. :-) You are just on a possible plateau. One thing I have figured out at this point and sometimes I panic about it until I put it into perspective....is that I think I eat WAY too much now but in reality I don't. Since I can take in more food I think I should still be able to eat like a newbie and think I eat like a piggy but I really don't. Don't stress yourself :-) It's all good plus with the exercise that can increase your appetite as well. Take care, ~Heather

Mary, I too slow down from time to time. There was a time abut 3 months out where I gained and lost the same 3 lbs. for about 5 weeks. The good news is that it did pick back up again. Just stick with it. My appetite has always been there. Although I am rarely hungry, I always think about food. When I am in my "old" trigger situations, I have to fight the urge constantly until I can get myself out it. It is hard to do because I built these habits up over decades. It does not all switch off all at once. Hang in there! As long as you are consistent, the "reward" will come. Debbie

Thanks, for all the comments, I was just starting to worry that this was it, that I had lost all the weight that the surgery was going to help me with and the rest was going to be up to me. I don't mind exercising to help it along, but seeing the same numbers on the scale was getting depressing. I know feel a bit encouraged to keep at it. THANKS!

It can get very depressing at times but always keep the faith! You are doing GREAT! Don't get me wrong, it's not easy maintaining. I had to take the first year and a half and re-train my brain, deal with my eating issues and get myself where I am now. It is a struggle at times but one area that I am very fortunate in is that I cannot tolerate sugar well so I tend to stay away from it. That was my biggest demon pre-op. Just always remember, it is a tool that if used properly can take you anywhere you want to go and that this is not a race or competition. Every person who has this surgery loses weight at different rates. Not one person is 'better' than another. We are all unique, have different goals and bodies. You are doing great, keep up with the exercise and sending you well wishes! ~Heather
