X-POST: Bladder Problem - May Be Too Personal For Some

Has anyone noticed a change with their bladder control since having a RNY?  I had my surgery last September and from the beginning I noticed that peeing just didn't feel the same.  I know it sounds silly, but its like there is no pressure behind it.  I pee okay, but the flow is slow and steady.  Also, when I have to go, I have to go now!  If I wait too long, I can barely get my pants down before I'm dribbling and then I can't stop it.  The topper is that last night I peed the bed.  Have not done this since I child.  I was mortified.  My DH kept asking if I was sure.  The evidence:  wet pants and a good size wet spot on the bed.  I have really bad hernia/s (no abdominal wall at all according to my PS), maybe my bowels have somehow displaced my bladder?  I don't know.  But, now I'm half scared to go to bed tonight.

Any thoughts?  Anything! Maybe I should sleep on the toilet.

April, I had the opposite problem before surgery, I could barely get to the bathroom before I would sometimes not make it.  I also have had chronic bladder infections, when you have a bladder infection that will make you have urgency and lose urine.   You might want to get checked for one.   Since I had surgery 3 weeks ago, I have not had the freqency problem however, I did notice that I don't feel pressure and my stream is slow and not steady.  It probably would be good to make an appointment with the medical doctor and get checked if you have not already.   Also, to help you till you get over it, poise pads will help with the anxiety which may help the problem.  Hope some of this information is helpful and I hope you are better soon.

Theresa, Thanks, I will be seeing all of my docs this coming month (my PCP, GYN, PS and WLS Surgeon).  I'm sure between them they can resolve this problem.  The lack of pressure was the first thing I noticed right after surgery.  Things have gotten a little worse as time goes on (up to the bed wetting incident). It's just good to know you're not alone or the only one with a problem.  I got quite a lot of feedback from the members on the main forum. I've been following your story here on the board.  I'm proud of you for taking this great step to start off the next best phase of your life. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just want to talk. On our way to a better us ...
