For the past four days days I have been having problems maintaining by blood pressure when standing and walking.   I am ok if I am sitting or laying (this isn't helping me excercise).  I called the Doctor on Sunday morning  and he told me to stop the Arixtra shots and said if I got worse go to the ER at St.Agnes.   I stopped the shots but am still having the problems I was hoping the blood thinners were the cause but I don't think so.   Other than the Blood Pressure Problem I feel good, the soreness in my stomach is almost gone. I am so frustrated and hope and pray the doctor can resolve it.  I have my one week post up today at 11am/.  I  will let you know the outcome.  Has anyone out there experienced this?  Terri

Were you on bloodpressure meds preop?  It may be time to stop taking them. Talk to your Dr. about it this morning.  I do remember having bloodsugar drops that would cause dizziness my first week or so postop.

I was on Toprol prior to my surgery.  My blood pressure was really low so I stopped the Toprol and told my PCP.  He said that was fine.  I still have days when it is very low so I am concerned about dehydration.  I know that I am not drinking enough but I just can't get it in!  It makes me feel pretty bad every time I drink something. Hope Dr. A can figure things out for you. Deb

Thanks Deb- I know what you mean about fluids, I really have a hard time with them. I understand from having something like this before, alot of fluids and some salt is the key.   Neither one I am fond of.   Now if they told me I had to injest suger and I could without gaining weight - I am there !!!!!

Terri,  I have had a problem with orthostatic hypotension since surgery.  I was taking medication for a heart condition that was to decrease my heart rate.  Some take it for high BP.  One week postop I started taking 1/2 the dose due to low BP.  By 3 weeks out I stopped taking it totally.  I follow up with my cardiologist every 3 months just for my regular cardiac monitoring.  When I wake in the morning I have to get up slowly.  I go from laying to sitting to standing.  I also cannot get out of a chair too quickly or boy do I think I am going to pass out.  I hear the ocean in my head and feel "whoosy". Best of luck to you.

Kim

Hi Kim, Thanks for sharing your experience with low blood pressure.  Someone who understands how hard this problem can be.   Once you start walking do you get sensations in your legs or see white spots, I  get those as I said it really impacts my movement.   Anyway, I am on my way to see my PCP for follow as my surgeon suggested today.  Terri

I had the low blood pressure and I had to be very careful how I got out of bed.  Real slow is the key!!  Have chicken broth the sodium will help with the blood pressure.  I can't wait to hear how everything went at your dr's appointment. Keep us posted and I hope you get to feeling better really soon. hugs,

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

i had to take high blood pressure med. before surgery and it was still on it after surgery, except my blood pressure was normal. so 4 days after surgery my primary physician (who is also my neighbor) came over and took my blood pressure, he took me off of blood pressure med. right away. my pressure was too low. he took my blood pressure several times that week and once a month since surgery and my blood pressure has been normal.
