Is the Scale Playing with My Head!

Ok, so I'm on this pre-op liquid diet.  I've been fairly good so far.  It's like I know that I am accountable for this that it motivates me to stick to the plan.  But there were some times that I had to have some more substantative.   Ok,  I'm wondering if my ears deceive me, I have a talking scale because I can't see the numbers.   5/30  -  260 5/31 -  258 6/1  -  257 6/2 -  253 6/3  -  251   These weights are in the mornings, so where does the weight magically go at night?  Can this be true.  The scale has never moved that fast for me.  I just hope I don't go into Dr. Kligman's office and his scale says something totally different.   I have one week left and my parents are coming this Friday!

alot of it will be water weight in the beginning. but also you aren't consuming alot of calories so you are burning fat and possibly muscle too.  p.s. i don't know if i could deal with a talking scale. that might give me nightmares

Hey Deena:  You're doing great. I'm getting so excited for you.  As for me, I've lost 12 lbs as of this morning.  2 weeks - 12 lbs.  WOOO HOOOO.  I stalled for a couple of days and thought I would break my scale, but it started moving again this morning.  I can't wait to hear from you after your surgery.  Take care and I'll talk to you soon.

Wow, your getting really close to your surgery date!!!  So how is the liquid diet going for ya?  Weightloss looks good!  Your scales probably right and when you go to your doctor's office, depending on what time of the day you weigh in there, it may or may not be different!   Good luck with the next week on the liquid diet! Congrats on sticking to the pre-op diet. It is tough! But, your scale is more than likely right. I've lost 8 lbs in the past 5 days on my pre-op diet, so it definitely is possible to lose that quickly. Good luck to with your surgery!!

Deena!!!!   I been wondering where you've been!  I was also on a liquid diet because I had to lose 60 pounds for Dr. Kligman prior to surgery and it wasn't easy but the weight dropped off like yours is.  My weight fluctuated by the time of day.  They were big ups and downs.  It would fluctuate by 10 pounds on some days.  It's totally normal.  Your body is going into starvation mode and starting to "eat" your fat and muscle tissue....make sure that in your liquids you are drinking protein shakes so the body has something other than muscles to eat.  I started at 500 and by the time surgery happened, I was 434....came home at 448 (mostly from IV fluids) and now I'm 406.  The liquid diet prior to your surgery is to shrink your liver so he can get past it.  Surprisingly enough I asked him about it afterwards and he said that it was quite easy to maneuver around.  So it's very important to keep to your liquids.  I'm hoping you're well!  Aaron
