Karen - I'm with ya - burgers are NOT my friends!!!  I can do loose ground beef, but not compacted into burgers or meatloaf, but I can do meatballs.  Likewise with salmon, I can do it loose, but not in a salmon cake.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason, but after I was asked for the 3rd time at dinner yesterday, "You okay?" I knew I had to say buh-bye to burgers!!! Baby your pouch, it may be tender for a day or so.  Really ****** me off that junk (cheese doodles) goes down SO much easier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have asked this question before (i'm sure) but don't remember if it was on ths forum or another.  Anyway, i had a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy on March 21, 2008 which mean i'm approximately 9 weeks out from surgery.  Don't know if it has to do with amount of time since surgery or type of surbery but:  HOW DO ALL OF YOU POSSIBLLY EAT SO MUCH FOOD AT ONE SITTING?  I can get down about 1.5 - 2 oz. of chicken, fish, chooped meat (stewed in sauce to make it moist).   I can eat 4 oz. of cottage cheese (very slowly) and 6 oz. of yogurt (also very slowly) and that's it.   All of these are, of course, individually...not all together...*L*.  Tried Kashi Go Lean the other day and after two spoonsful knew i couldn't do it. I use whey protein in soup or 4oz. of slim milk to suppliment my protein and always eat protein first ****assionally, i can eat 3 cherry tomatoes with my fish or chicken).  So, question remains:  HOW DO YOU DO IT?  Is it the type of surgery or the time since surgery?

Hi Susan -- It's the time after surgery.  After all, I'm almost 3 years post-op.  The cereal is probably too "pebbly" at this point for you.  It sounds like you're doing fine, and as long as your surgeon's happy, I wouldn't worry about it.  It will all fall into place.

Hang in there,

Tia

Hi Susan, When I first had surgery I could barely eat much or even drink my fluid requirements. I am now 15 months post op. I realized I could eat more at almost 9 months post op and after turning 1 year post op I alwmost did flips just being able to drink in an entire day about 70 oz water. I could never get to more than 30 or 32 oz in one day.    Everything starts to heal and you can eat and drink more that is why we need to always stay focused on what we put in our mouths. Sounds like you are doing great!
