I was told to do a 2 week liquid diet starting next week to lose some weight before the surgery. I'm supposed to drink 2-3 protein shakes a day. Can anyone suggest which protein shakes taste the best and where I can buy them? They recommend Atkins and EAS brands. TIA!!

I love Muscle Milk light.  The mint chocolate is my favorite.  You can get that in Giant, GNC, Target and Vitamin shop.  They also have it pre-mixed into a liquid.  Buy a small size at GNC and taste it.  I think it is great.  Also comes in Root Beer Float etc..................... Hugs Kristen

Hi Brandi!!!! Yep, that's the two I would recommend.  They're very different though - Atkins is thicker, more like a shake, and the EAS Advant Edge is thinner.  The strawberry Atkins reminds me of Nestle Strawberry Quick, and the chocolate EAS tastes somewhat like Yoo-Hoo (in a weird, bariatric way).  For a long time, and occasionally now, I used the EAS French Vanilla as creamer in my coffee or tea.  Makes a pretty good iced coffee, just add some Splenda.  You can also visit www.bariatriceating.com or www.unjury.com.   Whatever you do, don't buy a bunch.  Most wls patients advise that their sense of taste/smell changed post-op, so you don't want to waste a lot of $$.  On the two websites, you can buy sample packs - I'd highly advise that!!! Good luck!!!   Tia

Body Fortress Vanilla is my favorite. You can buy it at Wal-Mart for 13.99 it is a big jug.  This is the only protein shake I could still drink from being a pre-op and now a post op. I don't like the chocolate flavor.  I used to blend it in the blender but it gets too foamy. So I just take 8 oz of milk 2% you will probably have to do 1/% and mix it for 30 seconds with a spoon and it is good to go.   You can even have it with water only.   Good luck with everything.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

I actually drank BOOST Glucose Control ready to drink.  it's about $10 for a 6 pack and it's really good with ice and I would actually mix the vanilla flavored with some sunrise orange crystal light and it would be like a orange dreamsicle.

I still drink Slim Fast High Protein Low Carb (20mg protein) shakes and Atkins (15mg protein) for breakfast.  Creamy Chocolate is my favorite!  You can get them at Giant, Rite Aid, and Walgreens, however, they are cheapest at Sam's Club and Walmart.  Hugs, Tracy RNY 4/21/06

The slimfast carb control shake gave me painful gas. I drink the atkins advantage shakes.  I like the vanilla, the strawberry, and the lighter chocolate version is okay.  They just came out with a caramel cappuccino flavor which I tried and I like.  These shakes are a no-brainer for breakfast since you don't have to mix anything.  The EAS advant-edge shakes are good too, especially the strawberry one.  I prefer the Atkins ones. As far as powdered proteins go, i like the unjury clear unflavored with any soup or added to crystal light or to a shake in the blender to up the protein, or to pudding or jello. Vanilla tastes good in puuding.  The chocolate powder from unjury is great in SF hot cocoa, and the vanilla Body fortress I have also, which is good but has a strong vanilla smell when you open the jar.  But it tastes great in an icy smoothie.
