Newbie and nervous
I actually joined OH quite a while ago but have never posted. Since I am finally actively persuing RNY I figured it was time to introduce myself. :) A couple years ago I was looking into the MGB (now the more I read the more I realize that RNY is the best for me). At the time my insurance would cover bariatric surgery but required the 6 months supervised documentation. While I was working on that requirement, my company switched insurance providers and they do not cover it..at all, no way, no how. Unfortunately our company has small group coverage, so the Maryland law is not applicible. So I kind of put the desire to have surgery on the back burner.
Fast forward a year and a half later, and I am back to thinking it is the best choice for me. Especially all that I have read in regards to RNY and type II diabetes (which I have had for the past 8 years). My bf's(whom I've lived with for over 4 years) company does cover the surgery. And they offer domestic partner coverage..woohoo! Even though we know we will get married some day, we did not want to do it in order to get insurance coverage. Call me vain..but at 39 and twice divorced..this time will be my last wedding and I want to look spectacular. We thought that we would have to wait until open enrollment in October but impatient me starting looking around. I saw a post here on OH about a similar situation and she was able to be added on as a domestic parter right away as it was considered a qualifying event ( just like getting married). After asking the HR person, we were told yes..we can add me on now! All the paperwork has been filled and and now I'm anxiously waiting to hear confirmation that my coverage on his insurance will start immediately.
In a giant leap of faith, I have made an appointment with Dr. Singh on June 11th as well as the nutrionist. I figured I can at least get the appointment made and if for some reason it doesn't go through as thought I can cancel. We should know by the end of the week that everything went through ok.
Here is hoping it all works out as planned.

Thank you all for the warm welcome
I had an appointment today with my PCP to get the forms documenting my 6 months completed and he is very supportive of me having the surgery. It is great to have him on my side so I know he'll do whatever is needed to help me get approved with the insurance. He is just awesome!
Did anyone else get a bit nervous at the thought of not being overweight after the surgery?? I was telling my bf the other night that it dawned on me that I am going to change into something I haven't been in almost 20 years. When I got married at 19, I weighed 110lbs and within the first year of marriage the weight just started coming on. (I was VERY unhappy). It may seem silly, but for some reason that I don't totally understand, I worry about being thin again. Maybe I've just seen being overweight as my shell and I'm afraid to come out of it.
