Surgery scheduled/lapband

I have just been scheduled for June 12 at St Agnes with Dr Averbach. I liked him and his practice is very professional. I am still a bit scared of something going wrong during surgery, but it seems he is very experienced. Anyway wish me luck  Debbie Severna Park

Hi Debbie Congrats on gettingyour surgery scheduled. I have the RNY scheduled with Dr. Averbach on May 23 so I will be your guniea pig LOL.  He has a great success rate, and it common to be scared. I am have been a little scared, and I am sure as  each day gets closer I will feel more scared.  Keep in mind that he has patients that come from other states to have him operate on them.  Please keep in touch and check in on my profile page, I plan to keep it updated throughout the process, and after the surgery.  I don't know if you have been on this forum long.  In just one week all the support I have received from everyone has helped alot.   Also, if you have not attended theSupport Group Meeting at St. Agnes, please attend the next one for the Lapband you will meet alot of people that had the surgery and are being successful.  I believe there is  a meeting scheduled prior to your suregery.  Good Luck Terri

Hi Debbie, Welcome to the MD forum!   Congrats on your surgery date. I want you to know that it is normal to be feeling scared. Everyone goes through that and know that with any surgery there are risks, but you will be in great hands and everything is going to go great for you. Keep in touch and let us know how things are going for you.

Debbie, Dr. Averbach is also my surgeon.  He performed my Lapband on January 4.  I have lost 42 lbs since surgery and have been very pleased with Dr. Averbach and his office staff.  He is very supportive and always tells my that I'm doing great and should be happy with my progress.  I was scared too because I had never had surgery before, but I think it is normal to be a little afraid.  Good luck to you and let me know if you have any questions.  I'm happy to try and help. Thanks Sonja and congrats on the loss...I am anxious. Did you do a liquid prediet? he told me I didn't have to. Have you had a fill yet?

No liquid prediet -- thank goodness.  Two weeks of liquids after surgery were enough for me.  I have had two fills.  The first was 3 ccs and the second was 1 cc.  I didn't have any restriction after the first but I have lots after the second.  I have to be very careful when I eat to take small bites and chew good.  I was anxious too but am happy that I did it.  Good luck.
