How do you go about trying protein drinks?

With all of the many options out there, how do you go about trying the many protein drinks?  I am expecting to have my RNY on July 8th, so I've got some time to figure this out.  How did you all figure out what you'd like to drink in preparation for your surgery?  Meaning, you have the surgery and go home - did you have a bunch of different brands and flavors sitting at home and you'd just try them then?   Or did you try them all ahead of time to see what you liked and didn't like?  I live in the middle of nowhere, so I can't really try them and then send my husband right out to pick up more of them if I like them.  I also hear your tastebuds change after surgery so things you like now you may not like afterwards.  Are there any brands/flavors that everyone generally likes or dislikes?  When I've asked folks individually, every person liked something different  - but they all relied on those bullets (Nu Whey, maybe?)! Thanks!

Tastes often change after surgery. What you like today, you most likely won't after surgery. I used Atkins Advantage shakes a lot as well as making my own. I make a shake every morning for breakfast from powder, milk, and yogurt.

I would suggest getting samples from Vitalady (www.vitalady.com). She has tons and tons of samples to choose from. I got samples to taste pre-op to pick one for consuming before surgery to increase protein reserves. As I get closer to surgery I will be order a bunch more samples to have on hand after surgery when tastes change so I can pick one or two more to start using then.  By only commiting to a sample size you can save a ton of money and find something you like.  Good luck

Thanks!  I also heard that bariatricedge or bariatricadvantage has a "sampler pack" for like $100 where you get samples of all kinds of things.  I will have to check that one out, too.   Someone told me that they heard the protein bullets were lower quality protein - missing some amino acids.  Has anyone heard that, too?  Is it enough of a concern to not use them?  I have heard from many that they have been a real savior to them at times.
