So I last called my surgeons office on Wed last week and she said she had all the paperwork and that she gave it to the financial dept.  That the financial dept will submit it to the insurance company.  So my question is how often should I call for an update or should I wait for them to call me.  Cause I am going a little stir crazy already.   Thanks Guys  Barb

Barb I called them everyday and called my insurance twice a day.  I wanted to get things moving and did not care who got ticked off. Hugs Kristen

Hi Barb - Fortunately for me, I didn't have to deal with the insurance company at all.  The insurance coordinator at my surgeon's office was right on the ball, and when I went in for my first consult, having already turned in an information packet containing all the pertinent information, I learned I was already approved. HOWEVER, most are not so lucky.  I think I'd call the financial department, make sure they did, in fact, get it and ask how long before they'll submit it to the insurance company.  If they tell you 5 days, I'd call the insurance company on the 5th day to make sure they got it, then find out what they do with it next. Probably the most important thing - document everything - with whom you spoke, dates, times and what they said.  You might never need this info, but just in case..... Hang in there and good luck! Tia

Barb:  I'd call the insurance company to see if they received the paperwork.  I know it was a few days before the Dr.s office was able to submit.  Then if they know nothing, call the Dr.'s office.  Remember to keep a note of who you spoke with.  I felt the same way, but once it was submitted, I was approved and had a date within a week.  Keep your chin up.

From the varied answers above...it is obvious that it is a personal thing.   It really depends on how assertive you want to be.    I will say this though.   Get in the habit of asking how long they think it will take to complete what they tell you.   In otherwords...when the assistant says, we are going to give it to the financial department and they will submit to the insurance company...ask them when they are going to send the paperwork to the finance department.   Also ask, how you contact the finance department.    In my case, I would give them about a day longer than their guess.   Then I would call and see if the next person in line got the paperwork.   If they did not, then I would call the original person back.   I did this right through the process and it worked very well.    If you just wait until you get a call back...many times things never make it.    Good luck...the waiting is the hardest part!

I would call the insurance company today just to make sure t\hey received the paperwork from your surgeon's office and that they have everything they need from you and your surgeon's office.

Are you communicating with Teresa? If so, I would call at least every other day or whatever day she says it is supposed to be done by. Then I would start calling my insurance company to determine when they get it. Once they have it give them a week or so and start calling to get status updates. Be sure when you call the insurance company to ask the status and get details if there are delays. Sometimes information is missing but unless they read the details of your case you would never know that.  Good luck
