I need a recommendation for a psychiatrist
Hi all, I currently take Paxil CR and want to get off of it because it might be causing me to lose weight slower. It is not something easy to go off of and I want to find a medication to help me get off of it. I don't like my current psychiatrist. she is a moron. Does anyone know of a good one that has dealt with people with rny? I have BCBS. Thanks!
Hey Nicole! There are many people on this board who just love Dr. Ranessa McNally, including me. She has been an amazing aid to me during this journey. She went through RNY several years ago. She's awesome and she gets it!
I only went to her for the mandatory pre-op thinking that I'm fine and I'll never need to see her again. But, something told me to keep her card. And now, I've been seeing her monthly since November.
Here's the info: Ranesa McNally, LCSW-C, 410-602-0102
Weight at Surgery (7/6/07) - 410
Weight at Start of Pregnancy (3/08) - 268
Current Weight - 270

Hey Nicole -
Taya's right, the name you'll hear again and again is Ranessa McNally's. However, she isn't a doctor, she's a LCSW, and can't prescribe meds. However, she can work in tandem with your pcp (who can prescribe meds) to find something that works for you.
Ranessa had rny, lost 170 pounds and has all over plastics. She is a gem!!!! Can't say enough about her. Her office is located in Pikesville, right around the corner from my office.
Call her!!!

Hi Nicole-
I live in Bel Air and my husband goes to Dr. Terry Pritt. His number is 410-569-5000 and he is on East Wheel Road. I don't know what his experience is with RNY patients, but my husband likes him. Hope it helps.
Also, I'm on Paxil (not CR though). Why do you think it is slowing your weigh loss? I don't know that I'd want to switch, because it has done wonders for my anxiety. I'm just curious. It is terribly hard to come off of it, so be careful and good luck!

I was told that it could be causing me to gain weight pre-op and possibly slow weight loss post op. i've been taking it for a long time 4-5 years and although i'd like to blame the weight on it i definitely ate enough food to have gained it. also, i'm hoping that i might not have to take it forever. i was going to go down on it very slowly. trust me, i know what happens when you try to go off too quickly. it's horrible! i don't know. i guess i want to be as successful as possible and don't want anything to slow the weight loss down besides my bad behavior of course. thanks for the name!
You might want to try Dr. Varsha. She is in Towson. She is wonderful and also runs a program on eating. Her website is www.obesitypsychiatry.com. I haven't taken the program yet but I want to. She also practices with Psych Associates and is assoicated with Johns Hopkins Bayview.
Hi Nicole,
The psychiatrist who performed my evaluation for surgery is with Psych Associates and has an office both in Bel Air and Havre de Grace (I used Bel Air). I liked her a lot.
