I CAN NOT be the only one---Smokers?
Yes, you do have to! And you can! Do it for your WLS. Do it for your daughter. Whatever the reason, just focus on that. Each hour that passes means the worst is over. Each new day it will be easier. For me, by two weeks I wasn't even thinking about cigarettes. Well, I have a craving every once in a while, but nothing that would make my go to the store and buy a pack. Or even bum one from my fiance who still smokes. Since you are doing it together, it should be so much easier.
Here's another tip: Get something to occupy your mouth. Since I was sick, I was sucking down cough drops anyway and I just continued with that for a week or two. Someone else told me to try cinnamon sticks or something. Anything so when that urge strikes you can do SOMETHING.
Those urges are strong, but really they last less than a minute. I remember my first day back to work. Not only did I have a strong craving when I was driving to work, but around 10AM was my first usual cigarette break. So I had a crazy strong craving. I didn't go outside but I got up from my desk and walked around the building. I did that for a couple of weeks. Now I sit at my desk all day and never even think about it.
All this is to say that if I can do it, anyone can! You have to believe it. Think about your baby and your surgery. Two strong motivating factors. When this pack is gone, that's it. Good luck!
Thanks Tiffiany-- you are a great motivator!! I love the tips...I think I shall invest in Extra gum...I bought baby carrots today....so we'll see.....I am quitting this Sat 05/10/08..We are going to Atlantic City on Friday and ....well........I just can't quit before then....so wish me double luck...for quitting smoking and for potentially parlaying 100$ into 10,000$ (hahahahahahah)
