Getting a little excited/nervous all at once
Hi there! I have Aetna PPO and pretty much it goes like this (at least that's the way it was for me), you have your psych eval, your 6 months of dieting in and fully documented. Turn all that stuff into your surgeon's office and the surgeon's office will send all that stuff to Aetna. For Aetna, it takes about 15 business days for them to come back with an approval. So after you have your appointment it's pretty much a waiting game depending on how far down you are on the surgeon's office list. I had all my paperwork done and submitted to the surgeon's office on March 15th....the surgeon's office sent the package off to the insurance company on the 31st and I got my approval the week leading up to the 15th of April for a May 8th surgery date.

did the surgeon ask you to lose a certain amount of weight? I know mine did. He wanted me to lose 60 pounds before he would operate on me. Mainly it was for safety and to make sure that he could get in everywhere he needed to. I actually started this journey at 500 pounds but I'm down to 440 as we speak but it really was for the surgeon, not the insurance. Although the insurance required 6 months of supervised weight loss, I actually lost the weight so I wouldn't have to have an open procedure LOL.
However, if your surgeon didn't give you a specific goal to hit prior to surgery, then don't worry about it. I think i was told a goal because my BMI is over 60.
