New Eastern Shore 'Hopeful'

Hey Fellow Eastern shore residents- and patients of Dr.Singh or Dr. Averbach- My question is following your procedure with either of these docs, what is expected of you as far as travel to and from Baltimore? The group here in Delmarva REQUIRES (mandatory) membership to their gym and weekly and monthly session with staff. I am all for support, but after digesting as much on line about Lap band surgery (which is what I am looking in to), this seems to be the only group to require this and I forget to mention, this "requirement" costs 2500.00 (not able to be billed to insurance either) Is your experience going to be the same as far as after care goes? And also if any Eastern shore-rs have any input that would be great!! In essence is crossing the bridge a (better) (good) (more reasonable) option?? I'm not cheap, I just want to know what is common practice?? Alicia

That is all I know of except I do know they do follow up with you for life but it gets down to once a year .I believe, usually after your first year and they are always there if you need them. Their support groups are also great. I did not have lap band I had RNY but I know they are there for everyone and they are great.
I exercise all the time which is very important but I couldn't use a gym in the beginning-I do now. I had to exercise in a warm water therapy pool and I went to Severna Park. I live just on the western shore side of the Bay Bridge Have a great day. I will send you my info in your message box if you want to talk as I am not always online.Have a great day. I know I will. Every day is a gift that I treasure, I gained a life beyond my wildest dreams.

I really LOVE Dr. Singh! I started out with DBC and quickly figured out that this was not the place for me. I got my money back after my first surgeon left. He referred me to Dr. Singh and I haven't regretted it one minute...heck, not even one second. The only fees I've had to pay is for Arlene (the nut.) and my co-pays for the consult. You will have the psych eval fee to pay also but that isn't bad. The office is very easy to get to from the Baltimore beltway. Heck, maybe I can even go with you if you want for your first appointment. My surgery is scheduled for May 6th and I will be taking off the entire month of May. There is a new support group starting next Thursday in Laurel. I plan on going to that but the support groups at St. Agnes are another option. They meet once a month at the hospital. PM me and I'll give you my phone number and we can chat.

Where is the support meeting in Laurel? I live in Laurel and would love to attend meetings closer to home. I was banded 6 weeks ago. Dr Averbach is my surgeon. I had an appt @ 2 weeks and then the next appt was this week ( 6 weeks post op) my next appt is in 3 months or sooner if I need a fill. The only fee that I paid was $ 150.00 for the NUT and $ 330.00 co-pay to St Agnes hospital. There is no gym requirements but it is hoghly reccomended. Those who exercise to better. Nancy
